My first new DVD release since 2005 showcases an avocado green, mid 1970's Montgomery Ward-Signature washer. See-it-Wash DVDs show the entire cycle from start to finish of an automatic washer. Internet server limitations prevent us from posting the full cycles that many of us crave to see but with DVDs we don’t have that bandwidth limitation. You get to experience the sight and sounds of the machine first hand on your large as life tv screen and best of all it only takes up the space of a DVD case on the shelf. No need to make room in your home for another washer!

Here are a few highlights of the Montgomery Ward Show DVD:

• First I go through an overview of the machine and its controls.

• Next I remove the front panel and show the mechanicals including the transmission and motor. But most importantly I do an in-depth explanation of the braking system. Norge and Wards washers of this era had an extremely strong and loud spin tub brake. Unlike the earlier solid basket Wards machines, the brake isn’t engaged unless someone opens the lid during spin, normally the washer simply coasts the basket down to a complete stop. I show some close up footage of the brake band and latch assembly including movement of the latch to show how it works. I focus the camera on the brake and rev up the machine to full spin speed then I open the lid to activate the brake. You’ll see exactly how the brake latch catches on the spinning brake band and then I do it again, but this time in slow motion since it latches almost instantaneously! BANG

• You’ll then see me fill the washer with a large load of dirty towels. I set the control to the Regular and start the washer and film the entire cycle, just like I have done with my previous DVDs. The picture and sound are both crisp and clear. While the camera is mostly looking at a slight angle down into the washer, I now have incorporated footage from different angles, which makes the viewing more like you would see it in real life. Most of the cycle is filmed without the Burp-a-lator filter pan and softener dispenser on the agitator to prevent blocking the view. During a portion of the wash cycle I place the filter on the agitator and you can actually see lint enter the pan, then I place the softener dispenser on for a minute to experience the Wards the same way so many of us remember seeing it years ago. The regular cycle includes the Fill, Wash (sudsy but not overly sudsy), partial neutral drain, spin drain, spray-rinse, spin, rinse fill/coast, rinse agitation, partial neutral drain, spray-rinse and final spin-dry.

• After the cycle has fully completed I rev the washer back up to full spin speed and push the control knob in so you can see the tub stop in less than 3 seconds from above looking down into the wash basket.
