Rebadged Bekos...
Those frontloaders are sold under the Beko label here in the UK! Beko is one of the cheaper brands of machines available in the UK, although the new electronic machines seem to be of a reasonable quality. I have linked to a Beko verison below.

Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit as Veg would say
No Jon, I think those machines are rebadged Bauknecht machines. And that makes sense because Whirlpool and Fisher & Paykel work together a lot. The link shows a Bauknecht (owned by Whirlpool) machine. CLICK HERE TO GO TO foraloysius's LINK |

I emailed F & P about a year ago and asked if their FAB TL's would ever be available in the UK. The reply I got was in the negative however, they did go on to say that they had something exciting to launch in the UK over the next 3 years in the laundry market so who knows? But, if Beko FL's are the 'excitement' I am mortally disappointed in them. |

AHA!
Today whilst shopping in Myer, the first thing i saw was a Fisher and Paykel front loader, the top one on the website. I stood for a while looking at it and then saw the price, $999 which is just a little too much at the moment, i mean hey if its the same price as a Bosch, if i could afford a Bosch i would have one, but i can't so i can't afford a F&P front loader either :(

Ive seen them too!
I can understand F&P jumping on the bandwagon with an imported rebadged FL, but I must say I am confused and a bit dissappointed with its strategy. Why have one Beko model and another Bauknecht model? Would it not make sense to have both models from the one source? Next to each other they look quite different, which is at odds with the family appearance with the rest of its product line.

capacity?
How can you fit 7kg in a drum with a volume of 56 liters. There has to be a mistake. Or the volume or the capactiy is wrong. For the americans 7kg is (I think) 14 pounds and 56 liters is 1.96 cu. ft. |

F&P had a FL washer out around 1999.

The 56 liters stands for the quantity of water it will use, not for capacity since you´re getting 7 kg (14 lb) or 2.8 Cu. Ft aprox specification (I don´t know the exact number for 14 lb in Cu. Ft.) |

I noticed that for a long time the same washers were rated higher in Australia than in other countries. I don't know why they do/did that, but as long as I have been online (since 1997) I noticed the differences. |

Blanco and Fisher and Paykel may of being interested in zanussi at one point. But wouldnt Electrolux have had the final say? One would think they would of being mapping out there plans at appliance industry dominance and surely Zanussi would figure too highly for others to source there appliances from there.

Hi Gizmo, when did you get the Whirlpool AWM5100? What are your impressions on it, other than the rinsing performance.

Why Bauknecht??
I don't get why they are selling washer from other brands. And why selling horrible machines. I had a few bad experiences with Bauknecht. Both my dishwasher and my dryer died after 6 years of running. And both after a few repairs. I have changed every to Miele and hoping they will live longer than 6 years. NO MORE BAUKNECHT IN MY HOUSE!!! |

Actually if you didn't have any repairs in those 6 years it wasn't too bad. My brother and sister in law had a Bauknecht washer that had three repairs or so in the first year. After that it needed another repair that would have costed them around $500.- if they had had to pay the full price for it. And then in the fifth year it broke down again. And out it went! |

Interesting to read your review of the Whirlpool. Ive heard from a few that the Whirlpool models take an excessive long time to do a cycle, and what a shame it saves time by cutting out rinses. One rinse is just not enough.

"Optimised for Australian Conditions" means "We scrape off the Beko sticker and whack on a Fisher and Paykel sticker".
|
|
LOL that sounds about right! |
