Last year me and my girl and her kids as well was in mallorca. We hired an apartment there. We knew there was a washing machine there in the apartment so it was a good deal. A couple of friend was there too, they too had a washer in their apartment. We and them had hired the apartments for 2 weeks

Below is a photo of the washer, but first the story.

Afew days after we came there i was asked to do wash. You know with kids there can be a lot of that. Enter the room with washer. My first thougth: Okay so itīs a Ariston. Kinda cheap but probably working. Or so i thought. Did all that i should do, close door, turn on the machine. It starts to fill with water. Satisfied i go in the livingroom that was beside the washer room.

Suddenly i hear this BOOOOM BOOOM. I got up, pretty alarmed. What is THIS???. Going about the apartment to find source, find nothing. Enter then washroom. It was the machine that had its own funny moves going on there. It was smoking from back and was jumping around. Sadly i didnīt get my camera for a moment there. I stared at the machine and thought: This is not good at all.

My girlfriend came rushing in panic because the kids was going to sleep and she smelled something was burning. I put out the power to the machine and talked to the friends. I asked if we could use their washer. It was ok for them, so things were ok again. We do had to take out the clothes from the machine, thats why the buckets are there.

When i got back to Sweden again i had a lot of machines to collect and guess what. Among those there was 6 exactly similar machines like the one in Mallorca. Sensing something was really off with this machine i searched for proof for that. I found it: There was a bad conscructions so that water leaked from the bearing down on the engine. Very dangerous i say.

The moral of this story: Dont trust cheap machines like Ariston. They are just crap.

Neighbours of mine also had such a machine. I remember it being delivered. Noisy machine. From the first time it started to spin it sounded like the bearings were gone.

I worked as a holiday rep in many parts of Spain and all I can say is...... Awful!
I used to go to the Hypermart for my shopping in every resort and have a good look (as we all do) at the washing machines and dryers. Most had a very poor 400 rpm spin, nothing technical and wash result were poor. That was about 4 years ago so hopefully things have improved!

In the south of Europe, washers don't spin as fast as in the north. I suppose that it's because of the warm weather and the high price of fast spinning washer. All cheap brands doesn't sell their fast spinning washers in the south.

BTW: on vacation I never do laundry. Mostly I take everything, except my whites, to the laundromat. In nearly 2 houres everything is sparkling clean!!

Looking at the pic i uploaded from my camera i noticed something i didnt had noticed before. Look above the program buttom. It must have been repaired before. Also the lock was not really good. You had to slam the door close. It wouldnīt close if you didnīt.

We told the landlord of the hotel that the machine was faulty. The couldnīt put up a new machine until 2 more weeks. I told we washed at the friend instead. The landlord fixed so we get a little money back from the hire.

by the way, this machine has not a good spin. It just spins at about 400 rpm. I have seen new Ariston machines that spin up too 1200 rpm. I dont know if they are better constructed or not.

The reason why they had a such cheap machine there could be because it was a pretty cheap apartment and it was a landromat pretty close the house. They had total new Miele machines there.
