Last week it was determined that because of the poor spin performance and lazyness of the Hotpoints tumbling that a brush change may be neccessary.
After removing the 2 current brushes, Seamus advised me a change would be neccessary as one of the brushes had 1cm left on it in total , the other had 2cm left.
So after going to the local repair shop and getting some nice Reactor brushes to be gentler on the commutator I was set to install them.
Me being me got pretty stressed about turning the machine back on and when I did I was gutted as the motor was doing nothing.

Thought the machine had died for good.
Lesson learnt though, if you disconnect any wires make sure you plug em back in! Forgot the 2 spades that clip onto the brushes thus making said motor turn LOL!! Felt like a right prat didnt I Seamus?!!!!!!!
Anyway for those of you who are interested are the pics I took while I had the lid off

Im not going to look at getting it repaired, Id rather but a true 95 series and have done with it, keeping the motor from this and make 1 good machine out of 2.
See Carl I told you it was a dissapointment the whole Tub was not snazzy green! LOL
Always a Hotpoint with the motor on top!!! I often wondered if it affected the G force or lunging of the tub with the motor being not central underneath, you could always count on the old hotties for have dents in the LHS where the tub lunged sideways...
Make sure you dont move the tacho (small gold disc thingy) under the wiring plug...it controls the speed, if moved it could speed up the revs, which is not a pretty sight....
I did have a play with the motor and that gold thing which I kinda guessed was the Tacho came away in my hands, so I rammed it back on. I think it is set a bit more speedier than it should be as when we get going on the proper tumbles turn into distributes even with a full load. good fun to watch.
Can you tell me how I turn it down? ive tried twisting it and it makes no odds in the speed of tumble??????
You do spy Coop FS!!!! Orchid or something, it smells nice I guess but its unbelievab;y thick! Think runny custard LOL
Clogs up the FS compartment after each wash but I will check until Angelas has finished using it that all residues are washed out. dont want to oontaminate my Comfort with that stuff LOL!
I cant believe to look in a Indeshit Hotpoint these days that, yes they look nice with their green tubs but the quality of the components are substandard.
Well anyway Im not saying no more.....Im grateful to have the real thing.
After much deliberation I cleaned up the Hotpoint for good this morning and decided maybe a maintenance wash may be a good idea,
I dont usually do one as I do on avaerage 3 boils at 95 a week and the washer seems in perfect condition.
But after wiping some muck from deep in the seal between the drum, you know the hard bit to get in.......
Well anyway I decided if I was to do a maintenace wash I would have the filter/sump out too and see what was in it.
Hehehehehe heres 12 years worth of muck for all to see!
It's amazing how the Hotpoints still function so well with the amount of c*** the sumps can hold for years. Nick, did you ever see the pic of the sump on my old Hotpoint? It was solid too.
I have really enjoyed this thread and I hope that one day you find the 95 series you so want.
I sorted my tacho with the lid off, ran a cycle with laundry on a regular cottons wash. Observe wash speed, if too fast(laundry sticks to edges of drum lol), switch socket off, `click' gold barrel back one, repeat until happy with speed. Then wait for it to distribute, check that on distribute most laundry is pinned to sides forgiving the odd shirt or whatever which is flapping around at the back of the drum. If towels are not glued to the edges, distribute is too slow and spins could be violent.

Nick i've just inherited one of these that had died and all it needed was some brushes in it. I'd sold the lady a new Candy Smart which she's chuffed with and I gladly took her Hottie away. Anyway it's been running through my washing nicely and is now ready to be moved on. I've never repaired one of these before they are very robust inside. Very impressive. It's no wonder the last so long.
Same with us, Nick (nickuk) – we felt positively filthy when our Microtronic’s sump was cleaned! LOL Half of an Essex seaside resort was in there, and I swear we could hear the sea!!! ;-) I’ll go and hang my head in shame now. ;-)
’Twas I that showed Nick the photos of an Indesit-made Hotpoint! Yes – they are nice machines to use and are incredibly quiet, but Hotpoints they ain’t.

Nick I did see the pic of the filter in your Hottie and yes it is amazing what they can hold undetected, however since ive emptied it, the drain does seem to be quicker and the distribute/drain of wash water seems to be really effective now, even with high foaming detergents like liquigel.
The drain of the maintenance wash water was incredible to see, as usual the straight into distribute full of water usually froths up all detergents badly and the Surf was no exception, however as the level got lower and lower the suds just dissapeared with the water. I was amazed that at the end of it the drum had no trace of suds at all.
Carl, I would say you reminded me of what the insides of an Indeshit look like..... remember I used to have a Hotpoint WF000 that I took to pieces almost weekly to sort out sump problems.... glad to be shut of that heap of junk.
and finally Steve, I hope this baby really does do another 12 years despite the drum problems it has, It makes no odds to the way it washes I guess, no sign of bearing failure yet (touch wood) and as long as it keeps going I will gladly use it with pleasure until I get my hands on a 95 series or indeed a Liberator. They really are the best.
