Was just wondering if anyone on the site has an Oasis or Cabrio AGI model that can do a true HOT wash and not one with the dumbed down temps. This to me is the deal breaker.

So far I have NOT been able to find one that will .. I really makes me P.O. that the mfgs. think I am not smart enough to choose my own water temperature!

Can you "outsmart" the factory defualt water temp selections by turning off the cold water and leaving the hot water on?(the water input faucets feeding the machine)Someone ought to try this if they want a hot wash.

At one time, there wre two models of Sears agitator versions. One had the window, the other one didn't. The one with the window had an annual consumption rating of 420 KWH and the one without the winodw was 500 kwh. I made the assumption the one with the higher consumption per year had a true hot wash. I believe the "invizle" agitator models have a true hot fill, but then again, it doesn't use that much water. There is a possibility one can override this by simply turning off the cold tap, however, with today's electronics, that may cause the machine to shut down from filling. My 1986 LK would add some cool water if the hot temp was over 140, but I'd just turn off the cold tap if I wanted that not to happen. But that was 20 year old electrnoics too.

As far as I know, you can't "trick" the water inlet valves. It will spit out an error code and beep at you. My hot water isn't a full 150 and it's far away from the washer so I can't really tell if I can do a true hot wash or not. I could go up in the attic and tweak the hot water heater but I"m not brave enough.

As mentioned several times, my F&P IWL12 can do a true hot wash. I don't think there is a controlled upper limit. While in diagnostic mode the display reports the programmed target temp and the actual temp sensed by the thermistor in the mixing chamber, and there's no target listed when Hot fill is selected.

My older F&P GWL08 controls hot to maximum of 120°F and (supposedly) triggers an error code if the incoming supply is too hot, which supposedly is to protect the water valve from damage. The newer-style water valves can deal with higher temps, but whether 160°F or 180°F could damage them, I don't know.

Interesting also that older models used the mixing chamber as a heat-sink to cool the motor controller board. It wasn't unusual for the machine to trigger a brief cold water flow during agitation when needed to refresh the mixing chamber. Newer models are air-cooled.

IWL12 does beep an error if the incoming supply is too low for it to reach the target. It doesn't shut off, just beeps and signals an error on the display ("Help! I'm not getting any hot water.") I assume it'd do the same thing if the incoming supply was too high (hoses switched) to control to lower temps.

Default target temps per factory programming (I think this info is all correct, there's a load washing right now so I can't check them):
Cold = Tap Cold
Cold+ = 20°C (68°F)
Warm/Cold = 34°C (95°F)
Warm = 46°C (115°F)
Warm/Hot = 51°C (125°F)
Hot = Tap Hot

The IWL series includes a user accessible programming option to globally adjust the target temps by -6°F to +6°F.

The latest IWL16 may have different target temps, perhaps reduced a bit for a better EnergyStar rating. But I'd bet it can still do a 140° hot wash.

The sensor is probably in the water valve itself. The only way around it would be to put a Y-connector on your hot water tap and do a manual fill. This would also allow you to add hot water to the rinse fill to get a warm rinse.

As far as I know, my Oasis does a true hot fill on Whitest Whites, Sheets/Towels, and Heavy Duty. I think the way you get a lower hot wash is if you select "Save Energy Plus". I don't know what the temperature of my heater is, but it is right beside the washer. I tried turning off the cold water when it was filling with hot, and the flow wasn't affected, or the temperature from what I could feel with my hand.

So yeah, I think that gives you the option to have it do a true hot fill or not. One day, I'll get brave enough to go up in the attic and crank up the hot water to get a good hot fill.

Models 27032 & 27042 have the 500 KWH rating and the 27052 & 27152 have the 420 KWH rating.

Steve, over the recent years, I didn't do many BobLoads in the Shredmoe. If they were very large, I"d only let them agitate for about 6 minutes on normal speed and let the load soak for a half an hour.

Oh boy-the washewr builders are now styming you now if you want a hot wash-Beeping washers indeed!I stick with my older models-they allow you a hot wash and if worse went to worse won't complain if you turn the cold water off.If any washer beeps at me at this point--its going to the range-the target range that is.this is crazy-the gov't folks are out of control!!If you want a hot wash you should be the one in control.

It looks like the only decent TL offering today would be the SQ washers that do not have the "temp controlled" dials. This sucks, i was really looking forward to at least getting a hold of one more good long stroke style washer before they are gone forever from the market.

It looks as though SQ will be my next washer choice.

Sad, but top loading washers have only several ways to meet the Energy Star and government mandates for energy use, and most have taken the easy route; limiting hot water useage. Just to make sure those pesky consumers don't try and put one over on anyone, these new machines go one better by making sure in some way no none gets any ideas of messing with anything. After all, if everyone started using more water, especially hot water what would be the point of the new regulations? *LOL*

At this stage I don't plan on buying any newer machines except the SQ TL.I will continue to buy the ones from the swap shops.

Does anyone know what Speed Queen is planning on doing to meet energy standards?

Greg, are you referring to that dreaded "cooldown" rinse on the SQ Energy Star top-loaders?
