I went and fetched my new ( 2 years) Frigidaire today..Will be good for my dad to use for his little bits of laundry and for me to go and play with when i want to... Haven't taken it out of the explorer yet, but here's a few pics from inside the car:

You got the straight-vane agitator! Excellent! I'll bet it does a better job than the dual-action version in the new ones (like mine). Find out if it fills to the top row of holes on the SUPER water setting. Mine only fills to the 3rd row down from the top.

Is it a single speed or does the cycle selection control the agi and spin speed?

Nope she's a two speed.... I really am happy with the purchase, esp. for the $115 i paid... I want another one too, but so it can sit under my tv until i get space for my own little collection..

Please tell me how to defeat the lid switch..I will try and make a little movie with the digital camera

Just stick something in the lid switch hole. It's simple.

Frankly, if this one fills to the top row of holes, I'd keep it and look for another machine for your Dad. Find him a nice inexpensive WP or something.

You'll have fun watching the indexing tub, that's for sure.

I'm so glad you have a video camera! Can't wait to see the straight-vane agitator in action. I have a sneaking suspicion it will produce a more vigorous washing action than my dual-action job. Mine suffers from deriving all the agitation power from four skinny little fins at the very bottom of the agitator. It really whips up a storm for small and medium loads, but once the tub is filled to capacity with water and clothes, there just isn't enough 'action' in my opinion.

With your straight-vane, there's wash action the whole length of the agitator, which makes more sense. Makes me wonder if they changed the agitator design to the dual-action because it actually increases rollover, or if they changed it just because everyone expects to see a dual-action in a washer these days. The cleaning score in Consumer Reports for the Frigidaire TL'er decreased once they changed to the d/a agitator...

If you bought a new Frigidaire washer with the DA agitator-could you replace it with the straight blade one?

I just bought a TOL Frigidaire model GLWS1749. I couldn't resist: they were going dirt cheap, apparently discontinued. It is still in the box. I hear they have a neutral drain and indexing tub, discovered this fact after purchase. I am not sure if I will hang on to it- I hate neutral drain machines. It appears to be not so great quality, but a nice variety of cycles and options. The TOL dryer is supposed to be very good.
