Must wash small loads or it won't spin right

The problem could be anything from a worn drive belt to a broken shock or other support. The drive belt is very easy to replace, and on these early Neptunes you could cinch up the motor to put more tension on the old belt, too. Could also be a bad motor/controller. Hard to say, really. But I'd try a new belt first.

My 7500 had what I thought was a slipping belt problem. It would squeak. Replaced the belt a couple of times but it kept on squeaking, especially on heavy loads of bath towels. Turned out the support "spider" that holds the inner drum to the bearing shaft was cracked. Repairman said we caught it in time before the washer self-destructed in a spin.
