I was casing out my local Best Buy the other day, looking for something. Before I left I cruised through the appliances section. First off, there's NO Maytag to be found, Best Buy seems to be done with them. They seem to be big into all the Asian appliances now, lots of LG, Samsung, some weirdo brand called "Insignia", etc. They do have Frigidaire, some GE, Whirlpool and a few Kitchenaids.
Well, I saw one Samsung dishwasher, I opened it up, and what did I see?
A Maytag machine. Is Maytag selling their factory tooling to Korea now? The interior was identical in every way to Maytag's tall tub design. Racks, door moldings, sprayers, everything! What's funny is there was a definite drop in build quality. The machine looked like Maytag, but it felt very chitzy...not robust like the original Maytag design. Sad...

Weird...i'll never understand why these Asians just copy everyone else. It's the same thing with my shitty Haier dishwasher in my apartment. It's a sick mutt of GE and Whirlpool...all gone wrong! They have no passion or ingenuity. None. And when they do copy others, they screw up what was good about the donors.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Today's (rough) trade is tomorrow's competition.
Keep in mind Japanese cars. Tin-sardine can rice-burners at first, but look at them now!
And all kidding aside, conformity and homogeneity are BIG factors in Japanese society.
I personally won't buy an Asian appliance when I can get one that is made closer to home. Service and "customer-care" seem to be big issues to date.

Samsung brand appliances (stovse, fridges, DWs) were sourced by Maytag. So it's a Maytag in disguise. I thought it was funny given BB had sent Maytag packing and they still got Maytag product via Samsung lol.

It's the reverse of (some of the) Maytag front-loaders...if you look at the labels and they read "Made in Korea" it is a South Korean unit made by Samsung.......

Scott, actually the Neptunes with the windows were a result of the agreement with Samsung. There was simply a reverse sharing of product too because of that agreement.

Yes, that's what I'd understood as well...wonder how all of these machines will hold up over time (since we are already getting feedback on many LG models)...

It's odd, that no Japanese manufacturers seem willing to enter the fray as well.

My evil ex step mom has a 2001 Lanos and it's an ok car for her, although i am suprised it still runs and drives..But whenever she needs it fixed it's a pain..

The bad part of it is that the bank who financed it doesn't want it..She quit making payments over a three years ago and they told her due to the issues with daewoo, they would be nice and list it as a voulentary repo if she gave them $700 for it, a few months back..She did and they gave her the title... LoL.. Even the bank wouldn't repo it..

I understand that prior to Maytag's purchase by Whirlpool, that all 18 cubic feet refrigerators and below were to be made by DAEWOO.
Don't recall the source or any further details. It just pi**es me off the Maytag closed the old Admiral plant in Galesburg Illinois leaving many people without jobs and then appears to have shipped the manufacture to DAEWOO. Perhaps the Maytag experts who read this site can clarify the details of Maytag's decision.
Sure the Admiral plant was old,old. I just HATE to see the USA lose our manufacturing base over and over and over. The Admiral plant produced fine refrigerators for many decades. No way to save those jobs???
