And I'm feeling ambivalent! I'm glad that it went smoothly and that I got an apparent good deal (200 bucks for a 1000 dollar machine).

It is indeed the Edgestar CW1200 ventless 110 w/d combo.

It's in pretty good cosmetic shape, but there are scratches on the top. It is also missing a push button... the guy said he lost it in the move, so the "extra rinse" button is gone. The guy said I can still press there and it will activate the feature, but I do care about cosmetics. I called Edgestar (after I was at work and not around the machine) and the lady said she would need the serial number and if it wasn’t under warranty they would not be able to sell me the part. She said they don’t sell cosmetic parts and would only be able to give it to me if the machine was under warranty. If I call back with the serial number tomorrow and they refuse, I am going to curse out every manager in the place and write an e-mail every day until I get help. The lady was rude and terse and I really hope this isn’t a foreshadow of what’s to come.

A couple issues. The faucet adapter leaks pretty bad. I need to tighten it with pliers. I have to buy new pliers every time I need them because I lose them all the time. I ran it anyway, the leaking water went straight down into the drain so it wasn’t too big a deal. It may be missing an O ring. I just couldn’t wait to play with it so I used it like that

It washed and dried the first two loads just fine. A 3 hour cycle from dirty to dry and that is with express wash. The clothes came out dry… a hint of dampness but not a big deal at all. No wrinkles… I was careful not to overload. On the third load, however, I checked the dryer and the clothes were not quite dry yet. I turned it back on for thirty minutes. When I returned again, the clothes were saturated. I ran a spin cycle and then used my last four quarters to use the apartment’s dryer to finish… I needed my sweater today… no time to fool around with the Edgestar. It was cold out and I had to go to work.

I’ve never had a front loader before so that alone is a nice experience. It is a lot of fun to watch the clothes and suds go round and round.

Anyone have any advice on how to get Edgestar to send me a button? As soon as I post this, I am going to write them an e-mail about their customer service and ask them what I should say in my Epinions review and to all my neighbors who are interested in purchasing one of their machines.

Anyone have any advice about water getting dumped into the drum during dry? If the machine was defective, would it not do that every time instead of just the once? I’ve heard stories of this from other people with other brands, but I don’t know the solution!

I'm so glad my friends here are excited for me. Maybe you all are shocked that I didn't go with separate portables and thinking "I told you so"... but I guess time will tell!

I might get a button... I e-mailed the service people and they said they would see what they could do. Apparently, Edgestar will no longer be making washers and dryers... their manufacturer went out of business. Oh boy!

I do not know anything about this washer but might know something about the faucet adapter. I own a lot of portable stuff so is the the as I say cheap faucet adapter. Like the one here. Oh you can get them at a local place for about $6.00 like lowe's.

If it is that type try this trick. Get a roll of plumbers tape walmart should have it about $1.00. Use a lot of it on the threads of the faucet adapter. I do mean a lot that is the only way I have found to keep them for leaking. One on then screw the hose to the adapter, It is a cheap fix that works great.

Also found the best way to get that type off of the tap is to. Once your done washing turn off water and hit start on the machine let it suck the water out of the hose and hit stop. You can not remove the faucet adapter with out the water shooting all over.

I appreciate the feelings you have about your new machine. I am not familiar with this particular model. I like the w/d combo units myself and have faced the issues about one machine versus two. I still like the combo.

I was at a homecenter a couple of years ago and found an apratment size Danby washer and dryer for an really low price. They are seperate units that stack. That feature has come in handy. I fould out later the model was discontinued and parts are hard to find. I hope they last a while.

As far as getting a button....honey gets more flys than vinegar. If they turn you down be polite and ask to speak to another service rep. Explain your situation and be nice. These days service reps will cut off in a heartbeat if you are rude. That means no cussing. If they do turn you down write a letter to the president of the company and explain how you are brand loyal and hope to buy more of their products in the future.

I bought a new electric range and the oven did not work when I got it home. The manufacturer put me through hell about a repair or replacement. I finally went back to the store and sweet-talked the manager explaining I was restoring a house and looking forward to shopping in his store if he would help me out. He replaced the stove (against store policy)and sent the defective unit back. He even delivered it and had his guys check it out to make sure everything was ok. I have spent over 10 grand in that store since he helped me.

I work in a government office and know what it is like to be on the receiving end of an angry person calling when I am just the clerk that answers the phone. There are ways around it if they turn you down. Also check out appliance parts business's as they are many independent places that carry parts for many makes and models. There is a huge warehouse a few blocks from my office that advertises parts for about every brand I have ever heard of. Send me an email if you need me check to see if they carry the part or I will be happy to pass on their contact info.

Enjoy your new machine. Check out the dryer close. It sounds like you make need to look into that dampness thing. Check with toggleswitch, that guy seems to know more about these issues than anybody I have every met.

I took a very quick look at the Edgestar site concerning washer-driers. They seem to have various models and, (are you ready for this?)...

...they seem to look suspiciously like SERVIS machines sold in the UK, i.e. cheap looking and cheap to the touch. I knew a few salespeople who sold the Servis machines, and the general concensus was "cheap & nasty" - door catches being rather poor quality, etc.

Apparently SERVIS is owned by Merloni; a relative of Indesit (Ariston/Hotpoint) Merloni, but Indesit (Ariston/Hotpoint) Merloni is supposedly quite separate from the SERVIS Merloni group. They are competitors, I believe due to some family feud.

SERVIS is supposedly in the same group as Swedish ASKO, though whether this means that SERVIS's quality improves, or ASKO's degrades, is anyone's guess.

Bobby - congrats on the new machine! You'll have fun figuring out its idiosyncracies and what makes it work. Just be patient with it.

Merloni group desn't exist anymore, it's been renamed Indesit Company in 2006 and yes, Servis is a fully owned brand of Indesit Company now, but they're keeping their own line of appliances istead of Hotpoint-Ariston.

It's unbeliavable that they don't sell cosmetic parts if the machine is out of warranty!!!

Thanks for the responses! And for offering to help me with a button if you are able to :o) I did another load last night and it went much better. The faucet adapter barely leaked. I did follow the suggestion here and buy some plumbers tape on the way home. However, I couldn't take the thing apart to put the tape on so I just let it go for now. I started it before bed and woke up to clean and DRY clothes. No problems at all. Except for wrinkles... I haven't gotten liquid fabric softener yet, so I will have to try that and see if it helps with the problem.

You can clearly see the button that is missing... the very first one and it looks terrible. The door lock light is blue when it is on. I wish there was a way to defeat the door lock function... two minutes after the machine is off is simply inane, especially for the drying cycle.

I love the way the knobs work on this thing. You can press the round part in do have more leverage of the knob... hard to put into words, but you see the pic!

I HATE having separate connectors... Can I put a unicouple on this like the one that is on my portable dishwasher?

The first time I use this, I used a chip clip to hold the drain hose in a downward position so water wouldn't go everywhere. Last night, I just placed a heavy frying pan on top... talk about ghetto! :o)

Ohhhhh... all those wrinkles! If you take the stuff out of the machine as soon as drying is over the ironing will be greatly reduced! And some items can be directly put away

I like the looks of this washer. Been thinking about one like this for a long time. I live in a apt with no vent or 240 hook up at all. So been using a full size front loader with a faucet adapter. For a dryer I use this portable bag thing that blows hot air over the stuff. It works but slow.


Got to ask does this heat up the house any?

Just for the record, Servis doesn't belong to the Indesit company but to Antonio Merloni. They use a lot of different brand names: Ardo, Nordland, Servis, Edy, EBD, EFS, Upo, Tecnogas, Baumatic, Elto, Bompani, BlÜcher, Eurotech, Clatronic, Novomatic, Philco, Selectro etc.

Anyway, congratulations with the machine. I love the chrome door too. BTW, this machine reminds me also of the Supra combo, the one that needed 220V.

Coldspot, this machine doesn't seem to heat up the house at all. It is pretty much self contained so I really do not notice a difference in temp! Would you be able to post a picture of your drying method? I'd be interested in seeing that!

DJ... I will try to measure the water that is used in the dry cycle the next time I do a load. I'll let you know what I find out! Of course some of it is water that has been extracted from the clothes and some of it is the waste water from the condensation process. I'm sure, even with a leaky adapter that this machine is more efficient than a top loader.

Foraloysius, I think that Supra and Edgestar are owned by the same people or are the same company.

I get the photos up soon it is a odd thing but does ok. Use to have a whirlpool 115v portable dryer but it gave me some problems motor burnt out and for what that cost to fix I said forget it. This one I got now was only $45.00 new from ebay.

Also when not in use it olds down. It also came with a cloth cover to put over it when not in use. But I have no ideal where I even put it. Since I use this thing a lot I never cover it just fold it up and out of the way.

But a unit like what you got would be so nice.

yuk....sorry:P That machine is probably a Spanish maid Merloni, ripped for nice finesses and so. I have a similar machine named Bomann, and it is the worst machine I've ever seen. Also they lied on the spin speed on mine. It says 1400 on the panel, but the electronic module says "For machines with 1300r.p.m".

Sure it's a OK machine when it works, but it's a hell to repair on. And even worse on the W/D model.

But Elto, the real Merloni from Italy is more reliable. Not the most expencive machines, but you get what you pay for. Easy to work on, pretty cheap spareparts, and easy to use. I've sold lots of older Elto machines as second hand machines, havent heard anything yet!

I'm enjoying the machine... just having my own is a great thing. It perfoms fine, but I just hope it proves to be durable for me.

Coldspot... I'd almost rather have a dryer like yours! I may even look into getting one. I bet the clothes aren't wrinkled when you're done and it doesn't need water.

When they say a LONG dry time they aren't kidding! Two hours is the average amount of time it takes to dry a load of laundry! That is quite a while! I did buy some Downy free anc clear fabric softener so I'll have to see how it works

DJ... I did the experiement that you requested. I was SHOCKED to discover how much water it uses during the drying cycle. The machine used 14 gallons (I collect in a 14 quart mop bucket to measure)! I know some of it was extracted water and the rest was the waste water from the condensation process. I guess the money I save by using a front loader is canceled out by the water I use on the dryer!

Anyone know if I could get a Y adapter for my kitchen sink so I can use the water for washing hands or cooking while the machine is going? I'd really like to know! I won't try to use the dishwasher and laundry processor at the same time... just use the sink a little during the laundry process. I looked for something like that in Lowes but was not able to find it.

What about anti-vibration pads? I think someone here mentioned that they exist... where do I find them and how would they work if the machine is sitting on that wheeled platform? It does shake quite a bit during the 1000 RPM spin cycle.

How about a hosecock where the faucet-sprayer is normally found?

It wouldl be connected to cold only, but that may help free-up your sink!

Oh my!!! 14 gallons is 53 litres of water! That's like running the wash cycle two times! Anyway you should consider that around 4 litres of moisture come from the clothes. An that is completely clean water!

dont use damper pads! It's makes the machine shake even more. the best is to place the machine steady right on the floor.
