Proud

I am proud of them for stepping up to the plate. It took a little encouraging from me,but in the end they did.Major retailers dont sell SQ(I mean the big box retailers in my area)-I bought it from a small independent-so it fell to the manufacturer to make it right.More to follow...

SQ - Amana

A question to you all. Were Amana's made around the year 2000, sisters under the skin to Speed Queen's made then, before Maytag bought them, and then Whirlpool bought Maytag.

Good for you Tom!

I'm so glad that SQ replaced your defective unit. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your brand new machine. You could call this a nice ending - just in time for the Christmas holidays! I will be looking forward to your report on your new front loader.

Last weekend Jeff Lefever showed me his SQ F/L machine. It has a few features that both Jeff and John really like. The metal outer tub and a metal counter-weight (instead of the old FriGEMore block 'O Concrete). Just seems to be a really solid machine.

I like the idea of a "Boosted" Hot Wash. Since that "Regular" wash cycle is only 8 min. long, by letting the machine fill with warm water, and then setting the temperature selector on "Boosted Hot", one could certainly lenghthen the wash cycle considerably. I would think this would be desirable if washing a very dirty load, as an 8 min. wash would just be too short to clean very well.

More importantly both Jeff and John like the idea that it does not fool around trying to figure out if the clothes will balance or not before ramping up to full spin speed. The new counter-weight system works well, and it also saves a lot of time throughout the cycle.

I also observed Jeff switching the cycle selector from "Regular" to "Off" and then back to "Regular" again to add another 8 min. to the wash cycle. A neat little trick.

Have they adjusted cycle times on the newer models? I thought I ready they had lengthened them to give longer washing times, now 20 min.?

I like the construction features of this washer - all stainless steel, simple controls, etc.

Here is a video that Jeff in MD posted last year of his SQ - the previous, smaller-door model.

Tentative report

Hello friends,
Here is a tentative report on the replacement SQ.First,Gansky, they dramatically increased the wash times. From memory, regular is 24 min,PP is 18 and delicate is 12.One note here-the pauses between tumbling periods to change direction are longer than other machines-so the washing times are a little deceptive. The new machine is MUCH better on the vibration issue. There is some light thumping on the pulse spins-remember this unit does not go thru all the redistributing stuff. It goes from reg speed to ramp speed to spin speed-quick.The high speed spin is fine now. These are a little noiser overall than others I have used, but not at all objectionable to me-I have a seperate laundry room, but would not be unobtrusive in a kitchen.Anyone considering one,BE SURE TO GET ONE WITH A BLACK DOOR BOOT.They are the later production units. The new one is not "walking"either-so far so good.Any of you who have not seen these SQs in person,go look at 'em.They are beautiful in their simplicity.Wash well rinse well- with extra rinse engaged. No nonsense to them. The dryer is the best I have ever used.
