Post# 51485-12/20/2004-23:21 ||| geoff (Connecticut)

Over the past few weeks I have been hearing MANY people talk about never seeing a "winged" Surgilator or not hearing the sounds of a belt drive in years. I have had my 76 WP for quite a few years and finally a few weeks ago got around to making and taking videos of it in action to send to a member. I just attempted doing it through upload picture but they are far too big to add that way. If anyone can give me any ideas on how to get them onto the site, By all means, let me know. I would love to share them...

Geoff

The above sounded kind of crass didn't it?? Sorry, My intention is to share them with all of Applianceville, not just one member LOL

File sizes

Robert,

The file sizes for most of the videos range from 3MB up to 12MB with 2 being over 12MB. CamMURRAY, I will gladly send them to you, I just warn ahead that if you are on Dial-up, it's going to take a LOOOONG time to download them.

Regards,

Geoff :)

Cableman

I have cable ! I would love it if you sent them to me ! EMAIL AT: jmirawm@aol.com

Post# 51555-12/22/2004-05:05 ||| laundramatt (Ohio)

Email address-

Hi Geoff, I work for a cable company, and I'm kinda embarrassed to say how fast my cable connection is. I have a corporate account, around 8 Mb per second download. It would be interesting to see how long it would take to download some of these. But I think there is a limit on the email size. I forget what that limit is. You may have to compress some of these files. Let us know if you work something out with Robert. In the mean time, you are welcome to try to send me some vids. Thanks, Matt

Post# 51557-12/22/2004-06:36 ||| agiflow (jersey)

Great-looking washer, and look, there's the tub-mounted filter!

I'd definitely like to see the videos--my email is westytoploader@yahoo.com

Post# 51573-12/22/2004-08:40 ||| compwhiz (Burien)

Geoff please send them to me too i just have been dying for washer videos!

Post# 51574-12/22/2004-08:45 ||| Unimatic1140 (Minneapolis)

Geoff, if you pick out one that is 3mb and send it to me I can post it. The larger ones will take too much bandwidth to post, so for those email would be the best bet.

Post# 51582-12/22/2004-11:08 ||| laundramatt (Ohio)

My email address-

is mattstar@zoominternet.net. The larger files will need to be compressed using winzip or other such compression tool. My ISP has a 10Meg upper limit on file sizes. I'll bet most ISPs have max file sizes.

Post# 51585-12/22/2004-11:56 ||| jmirawm (Arkansas)

AOL max file size

I am not sure, but I think AOL max file size is 16mb. Thanks in advance geoff!! Tom

OH MY LORD LOL :)

I never expected such an overwhelming resonse LOL. OK guys, I'm running at 10MB\sec Download and 1000KB\sec upload, so this will take some time to zip, (most already are) and send them out singly to everyone. I will try to have most of them out by Christmas (Merry Christmas to Applianceville, you've all been such good little boys and girls LOL ;). Robert, I will send one of the better 3 Meggers to you to post just let me know which address to send them to. Anyone else while I'm at it?? let me know so I can start the sending list. :)

While I am sorting everyones E-mail address and gathering everything to send, here's a picture of the mighty bohemoth.

Post# 51627-12/22/2004-23:25 ||| DADoES (Suthern Tejas)

The washer looks like an LFA-5800. Yes? No? LFA-something.

Post# 51628-12/22/2004-23:28 ||| geoff (Connecticut)

GOOD Eye ;)

You are 100% correct!!! It is an LFA-5800.

The Mighty Bohemoth

Ohhh yes.. that bad boy is one of my Favorites! I miss seeing that DDSS get down and diry with a full load.

Post# 51633-12/23/2004-01:35 ||| DADoES (Suthern Tejas)

Neighbors had an LFA-7800. They ran into trouble with it having excessive vibration sometimes during spin. The local appliance dealer where they bought the machine (and where I worked during high school, but was no longer working there by this time) couldn't find anything wrong. I checked the machine a couple times myself, being that they were neighbors, and it didn't exhibit the trouble. So they ended up calling a dealer in a nearby town, who replaced bearings and all sorts of parts that I didn't think could possibly be bad. An accessory balance kit was also installed, a weighted ring clamped to the top of the basket . . a service kit that had apparently been released to deal with this exact problem. They didn't have any more trouble with it after that.

I have a pretty fast download speed at home (though I drool over y'all's 8MB and T3 circuits!:-), so I don't mind downloading from the site.

However it would be really appreciated if videos on the site were also available in Quicktime format or something else that was cross-platform. Not all of us use WindowsMediaViewer; at least two of us here (me & someone else) use Macintosh with Quicktime.

isnt that the solid state?

Post# 51673-12/23/2004-23:25 ||| tbolt25 (Louisa, Kentucky)

My belted 1978 Whirlpool is an LFA 5800!

That is EXACTLY what my 1978 belt driven Whirlpool is, an LFA 5800,same agitator, tub ring, lint filter, control panel, all! A duplicate of the washer you all were talking about!

The machine the pics above is the exact one my grandparents had in their rental house in palm desert! I so remember that control panel!

First vid sent.

Hi Everyone,

Ok, the first vid has been sent to all who requested and gave me an E-mail address. This was not without some problems though. Some were returned to me because of various reasons, mostly being that the file size was too big for some of your mailboxes, if you DID NOT receive it, please do let me know and we'll see what we can do to remedy it.

apologies,
Geoff

Post# 51751-12/25/2004-07:53 ||| westytoploader (Bellville, Texas)

YAY!

Too cool! Agitates MUCH faster than my '82 Kenmore (also belt-driven...ironically enough)--now I want one! The turnover and water drama are impressive! It's also interesting to see the tub "rock" from side to side during wash--one of the reasons why I was always fascinated with BD Whirlpool & Kenmore washers.

Merry Christmas Geoff, and thanks!

low water

Geoff thank you again,.....love to hear the rythmic sloshing sounds of the old BD machines.I can actually hear that famous woo,woo,woo sound of the transmission.They were such good machines in their day :-)

Thanks Geoff,

wide basket

Looking at the videos,i had forgotten just how wide those BD baskets were compared to the DD machines of today.Much more room for circulation in the older machines.Those were the days.

could I have a copy of this video too. I am the one that had one of the last of the BD's (at least in my own mind :-) ) A 1985/86 Imperial 70 with the winged Super Surgilator (as it was labled). To hear the sound of the drain portion as the tub was almost completely drained. I can only hear it in my minds ear. Never could duplicate that sound (not without some severe stomach upset at least) ;-)
happy new year,

I couldn't get the video to play!

I got the Whirlpool videos on my e-mail, but the Real Player couldn't play them, it asked for updates, but none could be found.

Post# 51942-12/28/2004-13:36 ||| westytoploader (Bellville, Texas)

Gotta love the sound when it starts agitating! I first heard this in the Kenmore; when the water level was reached I heard the motor start up, a loud "clunk-bang" as the agitator engaged, then of course the wild "woo-woo-woo-woo" sound!

EXCELLENT videos Geoff! Makes me really appreciate my Belt-Drive!!!
