One of my all time favorite washers from WP.Or as i affectionately like to call it,...THE TANK!! LOL.

I have that very machine in my collection. That is a 1956 Whirlpool Imperial model. It reminds me of a jukebox. It has eight lights in it!

Pat, the timer was repaired,and I have been using the machine since summer without a problem.It has had a full restoration with all new hoses,bearings,gear lube,shaft,spin tube,clutch,and an added waterfall filter system from a 1957 model. In fact I use it more than any other machine. (appx 3 loads per week)You are correct in calling it a tank. I think it is the heaviest machine I ever had to deal with. Lotsa iron in the ol gal! (:

Hi Pat,
In addition to the other work I mentioned in the previous post,the tub needed replaced as it was rusted through. I had to part out a 1961 Kenmore for the tub and other parts. To retro fit the waterfall lint filter the following parts are needed:The shorter tub,with the recycling hole on the side. The longer suspention rods,the four port pump,the mounting bracket and filter assembly,and new hoses. I also had to have the retainer for the filter cartridge made by friend that is a machinist.(The lever on the rod part always rots off these as it was made of "pot" metal. The hand machined replacement is solid brass) The next part is the tricky one. The underside of the top assembly has to be notched out for the filter assembly at the ridge that matches up to the tub ring. I used a metal saw,and a grinder and finished it with a file. I touched up the few chips,then split a small rubber hose lengthwise and cemented it over the cut out with sealer.
It was hard work,but anything worthwhile always is.
I also have a 1956 Kenmore TOL machine that is in need of the same full restoration . I have all the parts I need to add a waterfall lint filter to it,except for the longer "down rods" and the shorter tub with the filter feed port. The 56 Kenmore machine looks almost as bad as Roberts 57 Lady Kenmore did. It too was found in a junkyard. The control panel lens is ok though. Someone had sat a car battery on top of the console and over time the acid leaked out all over the machine. Rust,Rust,Rust! I will redo that one in pink this coming summer. For now it is "hibernating" in my garage. (:
