Hey Guys. Thanks for the welcomes. So far, I've spent the morning drinking coffee and "Seeing it Wash" over and over again. There aren't many chances to se vintage appliances in the Las Vegas area. It is such a new city that the closest thing to vintage I've seen are late 80's GE's in 1 subdivision near where I live. This is too cool.

Welcome aboard, dude. Anything you want to tell us about yourself and your interests?

Agreed, Las Vegas is so much into newness; seems to me the whole place gets remade every 10 years or so just to keep it interesting for tourists to keep coming back. But it puts the local residents at risk of losing touch with their own past.

Intro

Hey guys. Thanks for all the welcomes. My earliest memory of being a washer freak was my Grandmother letting me prop up on a stool to watch the GE. I was (and still am) fascinated by the water flowing into the pan, and the awesome way it started to spin while the basket was full of water. My mom had a 1964 Lady kenmore that also had some cool actions, but I was very disappointed in the stationary drain. I used to advance the timer past the drain and hold my finger on the safety lever so it would spin while full of water. The Kenmore was not able to get up to spin until the tub was almost empty, it would just keep attempting to spin and stop until most of the water was out-a total bore! lol. Now, we have a GE front loader, water-saving energy star and all that stuff. I'd dump it in a minute and trade shorter showers for a really cool filter-flo model.
If anyone knows how to get to the profile page I'd appreciate the tip. I want to fill mine in.

Re: Profile Page:

Hi! filterflo702 and a "better late, than never welcome" to you. If you go to the opening page of the "Discuss-O-Mat" and look towards the bottom of the page, you will see where it says about the Profiles. Click on that to open the Profile Page and it should then mention about your info and what you would like to do, as far as completing your info on your Profile.

"BTW" not to be corrupting you purposely, but the WP/Kenmore and other's that have/had the Water Drain before going into the Spin, is called a "Neutral Drain." I have done what you mentioned about as well, with some of my "B-D" Models, of holding the Safety Switch, with the Lid opened to watch the Washer try to "Spin-Drain" and watch it stop Spinning, to complete the Draining, before going back into the Spin. If I remember correctly, on the "Neutral-Drain" Washers that had an Infinate Water Level Control, I believe that I also held the Knob over to the "Reset" and I think that the Washer would still "Spin-Drain" then, instead of Stopping/Starting the Spin.

Peace and Holiday Cheer, Steve

Not only are we international, but we cross the entire socioeconomic strata. I'm a dreg of society and they let me in! I don't know what a dreg means, but they say I'm it and they said welcome aboard!

Re: Profile Update:

Hi! Versatronic, I see that you did find out how to update your Profile, thank you for the extra info. Did you have my info help you with how to locate accessing to your specific Profile?

Are you hoping to add to your Vintage Collection at any given time, or do you not really have room, at least at this time?

Welcome aboard filterflo702! I remember how ecstatic I was when I stumbled across this site a few years ago. It's like 10 Christmases rolled into one. Be sure to go to the Cyber Museum. Click on the blue highlighted brand names, scroll over to the right and you'll see Videos of Machines in Operation (or something like that). They're cool to watch, too.

I also enjoyed reading the old Consumer Reports articles. The only immediately visible one is from 1937, but if you scroll down, there are reports through 1959.

We're a fun-loving group and many of the members have amazing vintage collections. We ask only that you provide us with all your bank account information and your Social Security number, LOL.
