You sure seem to have the luck . I thought at first sight you had found another dishwasher. (luckey guy) turns out to be the smallest GE freezer I have ever seen. Nice washers. Michael

Economy heat switched the 240V heating elements to 120V. That's why the timer went to 145 or so. GE said at the time that you could save up to 15% of the electricity costs, but they only offered that feature for a few years. If you were heating or cooling the area where the dryer was located, the amount of conditioned air expelled more than made up the difference. On an outdoor porch on a warm, dry afternoon, who cared? Save a few cents.

I have never seen a food freezer with coils arranged like that. I guess it was before they bonded them to the liner. Be careful of the sulphur dioxide, it is very poisonous stuff. Try operating it outside first and move it very gently because the compressor is probably not bolted down and you do not want to stress any of the joints.

That's a beautiful WH dryer. Were these much different from the WH dryers in the 1950s when they went to the window in the door design? I see the three different stages for auto dry and imagine that the newer one gave a cool down at the end of the auto dry cycle, but wondered if the cabinet hid some great new advances in dryer technology, besides finding ways to make it cheaper and lighter to build. One trip home, I was able to rent a minivan. Neighbors at the bottom of the hill put their similarly styled, but less deluxe dryer and a newer, very tired flat front washer that was suffering from terminal rust out on the curb. I figured it was fate or beshert that on this one trip home, I had a minivan and there was a dryer on the curb. I dashed down one night and tipped the dryer into the back of the van, but not before they were pulling up to the house. It stayed in mom's basement until John and I made another trip home and then it went to Robert in Whereinthehellami, Maryland.

The GE dryer is going to be parted out for washer collector Mike in Long Beach to keep his 1964 GE V14 in spare parts. Im going to keep the Westinghouse dryer to try and find a mate to it and make a pair out of it, I just love the style of this dryer. The freezer works, is so facinating to see its construction. The compressor is firmly attached to a surrounding wood frame with the metal case built around it. Most surprising is that it still works and freezes and is just such a cute little freezer. They sure could not have sold many of these when they were new in the 30's, and how many could have survived? Its up for grabs if anyone has any interest! Oh, how I wish I could keep everything. I promised the Frigidaire 1-18 to my friends Tim & Scott. This will make the 3rd 1-18 they have, they just love them and rightly so!

The worst experience I ever had with appliances was cutting up an old GE 'fridge years ago with a sawzall,not realizing that it contained Sulphur Dioxide.That's a smell I will never forget!
You have to be careful,or that knob on the washer looks like it could be a glass breaker! From the serial #,it looks like a 1978 model,nice find!

Kenny, I can relate to that ! I too once made the mistake of cutting open a sulphur dioxide system. Back before anyone cared about reclaiming freon. The junkyard that we used to take the old units to wanted all compressors removed first. So it was standard practice to just cut the lines before we put it on the truck. Truely a smell one never forgets. Kind of like lighting a million matches at once. After we thought it was all clear we were heading back and I guess some was trapped in the oil. Bouncing in the truck it started dumping out again. We had to roll out of the truck right in the middle of the street.

Great finds! I, too, thought you had a new (old) dishwasher, there.

I love the fixit-guy agitator cap. I admire people who, rather than, say, spending $20 on a new cap, will spend time and effort coming up with a radically different solution to the problem. I'm afraid I'm one of the guys who just has to order a new cap, LOL.

Awesome new finds Jimmy!! Like I've said before, that dryer has impressive styling...from looking at the first picture I almost thought you found a washer!! It looks like it has had little use too...congratulations! Should November be designated Westinghouse month?

Cool 1-18 as well...looks like the control panel suffered from "Spray-N-Wash Syndrome" though. Also interesting why someone would take the trouble to make a cap lock when new Jet Cone Agitator caps are still available on RepairClinic...

I am one who would try to make something work rather than buy a new part especially at Repair Clinic prices. Guess I am just cheap.

Thanks so much for thinking of me when you saw the GE dryer. Glad it was pretty easy to get apart and you have a recycler who already took the cabinet and other scrap. I will stockpile the parts for spares when they arrive. I plan to mount the control panel on the wall since my V14 seems to be the next higher model and is different. Too bad it does not light up!

Yeah Mike, the GE dryer was easy to take apart. I could almost do them blindfolded now, Ive done so many of them. I have the surviving parts ready to box and ship to you, and the case is now at the scrap yard, ready to be recycled into another washer or dryer someday. Tim and Scott are coming in January to pick up the Frigidaire 1-18 and the Westinghouse dryer and GE freezer are hibernating in storage, safe and sound and dry thru the winter. Now if we could just find you a Philco set or your GE1050X washer..... someday soon I hope!

Hey Ross, I share your enthusiam..... I love them too. They really are wonderfully engineered, esp the washer. They come high on my list and probably yours too of high style, with both washer and dryer running at the same time and those round picture windows showing the clothes........The noise of the washer tumbling is quite unique, I sure hope I can find the mate to that dryer. Id love to make a usuable set out of it.
