I've been doing some moving things around the last couple of weeks and today finished putting the North room back together. The sets are all together now and what a great look it is to have the blast of turquoise when you enter the room only to have your breath taken away by the 57 Control Towers at the end.

Post# 97136-12/6/2005-21:38 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

I haven't restored the dryer, just gave it a preliminary exterior facelift...

Post# 97137-12/6/2005-21:40 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

The beautiful 1959 set, in stunning turquoise. I absolutely love this dryer, so quiet running and the clothes come out so soft!

Post# 97138-12/6/2005-21:42 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

Another shot of the towers together... Mark, look how well that dryer top cleaned up!!

I need to do something about that ugly black switch & plug behind the washer and figure out some better lighting for the pair now. Always more to do!

Post# 97140-12/6/2005-21:48 ||| rickr (Fort Wayne)

Greg those just look STUNNING all together like that! The 59's are my favorite! Great you got the matching dryer for it.

Re: Ugly Plug behind

Hey! Greg, why don't you find some kind of Pix's to place over the Plug, to cover it up, or if anything, Paint it the same Color as the Wall {except for the outlet area, unless you turn off the electricity first} {LOL}

Peace and Holiday Cheers, Steve

What a room Greg! Not many can say there's matching 57, 58, and 59 GM pairs in their basement! The room looks great - can't wait to see it when the finishing touches are complete!

Gorgeous!

Ugly Brown Outlet

I say celebrate it, and put a chrome plate around the black outlets. Very 50's and one can never be without enough outlets.

Post# 97164-12/6/2005-23:25 ||| tlee618 (Danville, Illinois)

Greg, the room is just breath-taking!! You have really changed things around. That turquoise set is something else!! Terry

Post# 97167-12/6/2005-23:34 ||| golittlesport (California)

Wow, Greg! While others rearrange their living room furniture around, you rearrange your washers and dryers! Simply awesome!

Post# 97169-12/6/2005-23:37 ||| tlee618 (Danville, Illinois)

I just looked at that first picture again Greg, did you put down floor tile? It sure looks great. Terry

Just Beautiful

Greg,

You are so lucky. I could just stand there and stare
at those machines for hours. Of course I'd have to
turn them on and play too! Enjoy, as I'm sure you do.

That is a great set up! Are the WO's across from the Ultra-Clean? What do you suppose makes that '59 dryer so special-------is it "just because"?

Greg, Just beautiful. A laundry room to die for!

Post# 97205-12/7/2005-07:42 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

Thanks guys - it's surprising how much work it is to "move this over there and this over here..." it takes hours to move washers and dryers! Each one has to be un-hooked, moved, reconnected, levelled, on and on...

No new floor, same painted mess that has always been in there. In fact, I was surprised at how nice it looked in the pics - in real-time it's scratched and scraped up pretty bad.

Steve, I think the Frigidaire dryer is such a great dryer because of the lower air-flow. My 68 Frigidaire was the same design. Less amounts of air moving through the dryer tends to be not as harsh on the clothes, they may take a little bit longer to dry, but the softness is worth it.

Post# 97208-12/7/2005-08:01 ||| hoover1060 (Roselle, Illinois)

very cool!

Every time I see those control towers I like them more. What a shame they were only made for a year, and so long ago too! Nothing today is so cool looking!
Beautiful basement Greg, I am looking forward to seeing it in person!

Post# 97209-12/7/2005-08:21 ||| fnelson487 (St. Charles, Il)

Fabulous Greg!!

Where are the Maytag 900s? All the more reason for a visit to see it in person!

Post# 97211-12/7/2005-09:06 ||| jasonl (Safe in Opelousas, LA)

Kenmore

And you were kind enough to let a Kenmore live with the awesome Frigidaires. Kenmores need love too.

Post# 97218-12/7/2005-09:50 ||| Unimatic1140 (Minneapolis)

The Frigidaire Room is beautiful Greg, can't wait to see it in person!

Showroom Style

Wow, thats a Showroom Sheen or what, looking FAB, please tell me the Maytags still exist??

Too all of you out there starting off with a corner in a basement, spare room or just just having found the "One" appliance you`ve always wanted and think you wont get another...

Please set yourself the goal of equipping the room with power, water & decorations....its easier to add appliances to a georgous "ready to move into room" than ship it all out when you had 5 and now its 55.....ohh, how do I know that!!!!

Mike

Wonderful display Greg, hope to see it in person sometime. Doing my laudry room over as my winter project. How many of the washers and dryers can you run at once? I can run all my washers at once, but only one elect dryer and a gas dryer so far........the limits of electricity!

Wow...a room devoted entirely to Frigidaire!!!

Excellent arrangement Greg, with the Control Towers sitting at their "throne" on the back wall!!! Like Steve said, I hope you didn't kick the WO-65 and TR-60 out to make from for everything else!! Definitely much different than it looked during the Convention...perhaps you should post some pictures of your whole basement and what has changed recently? :)

That's a cool Frigidaire to the right of the '59 dryer, with the bug-eye controls...what year is this machine from? ;-)

Entering Greg's basement is like stepping back in time, and walking into a 1950's or 1960's appliance showroom...definitely breathtaking when you haven't seen it before!!!

Post# 97266-12/7/2005-16:37 ||| foraloysius (Groningen, the Netherlands)

Very nice that Frigidaire room. And what a tribute to Frigidaire that you arranged them in a sharp L-form. You must call it the Sheer room!

Post# 97270-12/7/2005-16:50 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

Don't worry anyone, the Maytag 906's are safe and sound hibernating for the time being in the spare bedroom downstairs. I should start a B&L (Bed and Laundry), how many other places can you go and have a Maytag washer for a vanity??

Jimmy, the power situation is rather slim in that room, you can run one unimatic and another machine at the same time but unless you time the unimatics properly, you can't run them both together. Only one of the Filtrators can be plugged in at the same time, but why would anyone want to run more than one anyway?

The other three machines behind the wall, 49 Westinghouse, 64 Hotpoint and 60 GE are still where they were in June but I've moved some things around in the other room and will take some pics in the next few days.

Post# 97271-12/7/2005-16:53 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

Sheer Look Arrangement

I never thought of that, Louis! How right you are!

The WO-65 and the TR-60 Frigidaires are in the rumpus room ;-) now, also hibernating for a while... Everything gets a turn, there just isn't enough space for everything all at once.

How can I get on your Christmas List? LOL

outlets

Between the choice of white, ivory, or brown outlets, and the INFINITE variety of cover plates available, I'm sure you can come up with a satisfactory aesthetic solution

I`m in awe! Great Frigidaire room! Love your pics as always!

Post# 97400-12/8/2005-09:31 ||| Frigilux (Minnesota)

That's beautiful, gansky! I just can't believe how radically different the '56-59 machines were. The '59 control dial looks a bit like it could be on a Kenmore. I've never seen a '59 in person. Can you imagine one of today's manufacturers allowing for so many changes in design each year? It would never happen. Must have been an exciting time to work as a design engineer for Frigidaire...

Post# 97406-12/8/2005-10:58 ||| agiflow (NJ)

I too like that 59 Frigidaire set. I think these and the 1960 TOL w/d designs were Frigidaire at their best. Beautiful machines Greg one and all.

frigidaires

I've said once before that the 50's and the 60's Frigidaire
laundry equipment were the best in design and built for quality them and also Westinghouse. When I was growing up it was considered that if you could afford a Frigidaire or Westinghouse and/or Norge and even Maytag you had the very best money could buy and were well off.

Sidebar question: Greg, I just noticed the box of Dash detergent on your well-stocked shelf. How old is that? It doesn't look like the vintage boxes I remember from my (blows dust off memory bank) youth.

Post# 97816-12/11/2005-13:09 ||| Jetcone (Boston, MA)

Oooohhhhh

Soooooo Nice!
Louis is right you do have a Sheer Look arrangement!

Matching sets "o" how I dream! I have to blast out under the deck to fit them in.

Wonderful Greg, now all you need is a few Chrome Mimxasters on the shelves for Bling!

And Angus I howled when I read :"If I wore pearls, I would be clutching them as we speak. Beautiful room!!!"
How non Darth Vader!!

Jet

Post# 97830-12/11/2005-15:54 ||| gansky1 (Omaha, NE)

Stop with the Mixmasters!

The box of Dash on the shelf above the '59 set is from Italy, Don (jetaction) brought it back for me a couple of years ago.

Post# 97844-12/11/2005-17:49 ||| retromom (Texas y'all)

Beautiful Job Greg!

That is some classy basement, Greg! You really know how to make those Frigidaires look drop dead gorgeous!

Wouldn't it be great if manufacturers could give their R&D folks and engineers a free rein to come up with exciting, innovative ideas? I say "bring back control towers and jet action!"

Venus :-)
