Hi guys,

Just wanted to know what might be a decent price to offer the current owner of this machine? It's a 1963 Simpson Pope Fluid Drive that has been restored to full working capacity. I was thinking of $200 - $300 AU dollars, so about $150 - $200 US. Would this seem unreasonable, considering it's in perfect working order and these machines are getting very rare here in Oz.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Leon

I think that $150-200 is right on the ball for a 100% restored machine, especially a rare model!

That Simpson is very cool...love the control panel! Do you remove the blue "fin attachment" on the agitator for more gentle action? I've seen a Servis twin tub with one of these and had to ask...

RE: Gentle Action

Hey Westy...

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll make the offer and see what he says. The Blue attachment serves two purposes....one as you said i'm pretty sure and the other is the as the lint filter.

It was good to watch it in action...i was quite surprised at the turnover of the load in the machine and was pretty quiet too.

That machine really reminds me of the early '60's Hotpoint machines sold here in the states. Although the console looks a lot more solid than the Hotpoints did, and that filter looks familiar too----like a Bradford maybe?

Thanks for sharing the photos----very interesting!

Re: Gyrafoam

Hey Gyrafoam,

No worries there. If the machine looks similar, its probably because Simpson more than likely borrowed mechanicals from other brands from the States before they came up with their own design in the early 70's.

Takes the breath away!!! Pay whatever they want!

Is that the owner standing in the laundry tub? The modern machine appears to have a sliced tennis ball for a control knob, perhaps they would accept a brand new knob in trade ;-)

Cool

Nice machine!! It would be cool to own in the states but the shiping would be murder.

What I would give...

I would be willing to donate one of my Kidneys!

You just dont find these old machines anymore, people put them on the side of the road for the council to collect and when you see an old beauty they have usually been gutted.

I would love to find one of the old push button Seventies style Simpsons with blue control panel and chrome.

A Beautiful Vintage Australian Washer - WOW

WOW Leon, that machine is BEAUTIFUL. The agitator looks like a Beam design agitator and the filter looks very Franklin like. I wonder what the transmission looks like?

That machine really should be saved. Please keep us posted and more pictures when you can!

On second look, the badge in the upper left of the cabinet says "Fluid Drive", so I bet it might be a Beam Design washer. Just like our Speed Queens.

I'll make an offer!

Well...i think i'll make an offer and see what if he'll take it.

GANSKY: You are such a comedian! The modern Simpson he has is pretty crappy.

ARRROOOHH: I know the machine you're thinking of: ive seen a couple in the past.

UNIMATIC: You are correct....the transmission is EXACTLY like Speed Queens of the era. A couple more pics for you.

I even took a short video of it washing and spinning....will post when i can.

Leon
