I have a line on this old Maytag. The owner says it's an A606 circa about 1977, but he's not sure.

Any other info about this washer that you could contribute would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I have an A606 & use it almost daily...

It does not have the 4 water temps on the left.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
I only have 3, cold/warm/hot.
The rest is identical.
Great washer, it made a believer of vintage
appliances out of me.
Glad I by-passed that pesky lid switch, too!

Check the serial #. 6#'s followed by 2 letters 1st letter ='s
year, 2nd letter ='s month of manufacture 1977 would be Z

Thanks, I'll have to look for the serial number when I see the washer in person.

I can't tell for sure, but it looks like this is a two-speed, with a warm rinse option (so it's a "pre-Jimmy Carter" model). I don't know if the back lights up, but it would be cool if it did (or if it could be retrofitted to light up).

It would have been made after the mid 70s, as it has the gold bottom trim and metallic dial, which is the last of the center dial designs, that ended in 1980.

A 606 does not light up in the back, but an 806 or 906 does, a very cool feature.

I noticed/learned offhand at my friend Roger's house that this final incarnation of center dial Maytags does not have the little orange pilot light above the dial that the earlier models do. The late 806 models do not have the chrome strip on the front of the machine or the chrome lint filter top. Lastly, this final incarnation does not have the trademark Maytag "snapping timer".

The washer pictured--

looks more like a 206 to me than a 606.

I could be wrong, very wrong, but I'd bet .75 US.

I'm thinking late 606,or a 608. Very dependable washers, should continue to give years of great service.

When my wife and I had this model, it was an A806 in 1971. Still have the manual to it, and she still has the machine. Of course, it is avocado.

Looks like a 208 to me.

I stand corrected. Our 806 had seperate speed buttons for wash and spin and an backlighted panel and interior.

Hello from a new member. This is a model A608, in my opinion the best Maytag ever. I have two, and they are wonderful. They were made from 1977-1979. The A606 had blue metallic paint around the buttons. Yours can be confused with an A208, but yours is the large capacity model. This one's a keeper!
