Yes, it had a time-line timer, fluorescent light, with the toggle-levers and pushbuttons ... but no window in the lid.

Wow Ben Congratulations, that is a GREAT start to the new year.

Well its the 1958 model I think, but what is strange is how come the magazine add shows a solid lid without a window???? That as is very un-kelvinator like if you ask me.

How's the inside look??? These are relatively easy machines so get going as long as the two rubber boots are in tact. Can't wait to hear the full story.

Veg - I take it that 'Hubba hubba' was for the up-the-skirt shot of the Kelvy - correct? =) I'll tell ya guys - she is as clean as a whistle down there - NO RUST in the important spots. This machine looks like it has very little use - if any.

Thanks guys for all the kind words - I really appreciate it! Rick - give me a call - we'll talk turkey over that Kenmore - LOL! I never thought I would find something this cool - this hard to find. I would first like to thank Laundress - for if she had not posted the Porta Washer auction, I would have never found the Kelvinator.

So - after picking up the Porta Washer (which by the way DOES have the Delivery Cover, and I would guess the Porta Washer was used maybe once - it looks brand new!), I was driving along my favorite stretch of America's Main Street - the Lincoln Highway. As I drove though Cedar Rapids, I got lost. I was intending to get on the interstate and head home. Instead, I found my way on a two lane taking the long way home. As I headed north, I was about to breeze through a small town as I previously had done dozens of times. This time though I was on the hunt for appliance shops. Sure enough, this small town had a Maytag dealer. I stopped in, and instead of getting the usual, "Ain't got nuthin' that old", I heard the beautiful words from the woman behind the counter, "yeah, we have some stuff like that around." As I looked above the service counter, I saw a Maytag lit sign saying, "Maytag - with the new advanced Helical Drive!", as well as a lit Kelvinator sign clock in the back room. Sure enough, a few minutes later of talking, I was walking with the new owner into the basement, and found the Kelvinator pushed into a corner, sans the agitator. After walking through heaps of wringer agitators, motors, Maytag control panels, etc., I decided to shoot the guy an offer. After I had given him my lowest offer, I found the agitator amongst a bunch of aluminum Maytag agitators! After a bit of haggling, I was the new owner of a late 50's Kelvinator.

So, after I had the Kelvy loaded in the Tahoe and securing future interests in a few more treasures I had found in the basement, I called Cory. His response? "You aaaaa..." I think you get the picture.

I felt like a king driving along the two-lane black top: A brand new Porta Washer, a beautiful TOL Kelvinator, and the top panel to a Maytag 902 - and yes, I typed that correctly.

Eddie - if you are reading this - thank you so much for showing Cory and I Greg's Kelvinator in his basement. If you would not have shown it to me, I would not have found the agitator, and would not have known how cool such a machine like this is. Thanks guys and gals for embracing us young-ins.

BTW - hopefully Cory will post more eye candy tonite or tomorrow. Anyone got a spare screw down top for the agitator? This one was missing it.

Excellent story, Ben. What a great appliance day you had! Good score on the A902 top - the first year with an agitator integrated fabric softener dispenser.

I have an extra light blue agitator cap, if nobody has a better one you can always spray it black... Did you get the filter pan?

Greg, I wasn't able to find the filter pan - but thanks for the offer on the cap, I appreciate it! When we go back, I'll look around to see if I can find anything like it. I am a bit worried though after reading Robert's heed about the 'boots'. Where are these two boots located? I do not remember seeing any boots while moving the machine. Is there a boot that is supposed to go under the agitator? If there is, we've got some hunting to do! Also, is the center shaft supposed to spin? When you put the agitator on it spins with ease - is it supposed to do this?

Hi Ben there are two boots one is under the agitator and the other is in the outer tub. If you can spin the agitator post than the boot is either missing or the clamp is not tight.

Can you take a picture of the inside of the tub with the agitator removed? That will give us a better idea of what is going on.
