Hi Sugar!----------
It sounds like the fan is a bit loose. When re-assembling the mechanism I always like to use a bit of "Locktite" on that long bolt holding the fan to the pump.

Chris - have you ever had the pump cover off? It sounds like you might just have a loose pump screw - common with unimatics. Lay the machine in it's left side (so you don't pee oil out of the vent tube on the tranny), remove the cross-brace, support the mechanism (a gallon paint can works well) and remove the pump cover screws. Once you have removed the cover, you can see the bottom of the pump impeller and a slot-head screw in the center. This screw holds the pump impeller and the fan in place on the motor shaft - the impeller has a long "neck" that extends through the pump seal and cover and compresses against the fan to hold it tight. Remove the pump screw with a large screwdriver so as not to strip the head and put a few drops of Loctite on the threads. The pump impeller should be seated far enough up onto the fan to hold it tight. |

The pump screw has to be very, very tight. Robert showed me how he uses a pair of vise-grips on an enormous screwdriver to get more leverage and make it as tight as possible. I've never had a problem using that method, I guess I was "brought up right." ;-) |

Yes these fans do not wear out and I've never needed new one. The problem as Greg stated above is the pump impeller screw has to be extremely tight. Over the years it has loosened. Be sure to take the screw completely out and add some blue Loctite to the threads.
