I am still needing some assistance with determining the age of Whirlpool Washers. I find many belt drive models during my repair shop travels, but am unsure of their age. Does anyone know of (or have)a date of manufacture list made by Whirlpool? Did they do like maytag, or am I just out of luck? |

All I know is that the belt drive (wig-wag) you are asking about was made for around 30 years if my memory serves me correct. Kenmore and Whirlpool went to the design 2000 models around sometime or another. ha~I just know that they direct drives are comparable to Adolf Hitler's Volkswagon in their ease and simplicity to work on. |

I just wanted to know if I can determine the year made by the model or serial numbers on the belt drive models. I think on the Sears ones, it's in the first digits of the serial number. Same on the Whirlpool models or no? |

There was a pattern on model numbers from the early 1960 to the late 1970s. (The model number syntax changed at that time to prevent repetition, although the letters were similiarly-used.)

My sister had a LWA6600 whirlpool washer when she first lived on her own... It was a 1971 model (the place she lived in was built in 1971)It was a darn good washer.. The landlord told her to keep it when she moved as he was remodling the place and she did..She had that thing until right before Zakk was born... That was in 2002... I had always thought it was a late 70's unit, but CU had tested it in 1971!!

W would have been before X, so 1971 would be it. I wasn't sure if W was used as a year designation, being as it also is the color code for White. |

Ok, then 1970 must be LVA, as that's the first three digits on the model number of my Imperial Mark XII. So how can we determine the week and year from the Serial number? |
