Hello all. new here, so please bear with me. I am a commercial laundromat repair tech, but I do not have much of a background with domestic appliances. I have a friend with an Atlantis (MAV5000AWW) that is having trouble emptying the tub. The drain hose is about 16 inches above the machine. Does this type have a belt driven pump or is it electric? Do the fins have a tendency to self destruct? How do I get inside? (clips on top, screws on bottom, etc...) Thanks for any info and your patience.

Welcome to the club. You will find very knowledgeble friends here. I beleive the Atlantis washer has a belt driven pump. There is a high capacity pump available for higher pumpout situations. There also may be a flow restrictor inside the end of the drain hose that connects to the pump. Any parts house should be able to tell you the part # if you gove model & serial # of the machine. There are 2 clips on the front seam; use a putty knife to release them, then there are 2 screws on the inside corners of the front panel. Remove these and the front panel will come off. The pump should be in the front right or left corner. Hope this helps.

The drive belt is directly below the transmission on the very bottom of the machine.You may tilt the washer back about a foot and look underneath to check and see if the drive pully on the pumb or the drive belt are o.k.This washer is pretty easy to work on and parts are readily available.

Thanks for your replies. I haven't gotten a chance to go look at it yet due to a rather large amount of snow, but it sound pretty easy.

The Herron based washer is a glorified magic chef. These machines have lots of problems with pumpout, including , #1 off balance loads(bad snubber), stretched belt,oversuds condition, plastic motor pulley worn, main bearings tight, etc. These are a few things off the top of my head. Good luck
