First, thanks Launderess and Chad for your info. I have the model number for the compact washer now: 110.84670100 I still am too stupid to find the info for it at Whirlpool. Found some stuff at Sears, but not everything. Any help (especially where I can download the service manual or user guide) would be very much appreciated. It is hard to place the date on these, so if this one is 1987 or later, please forgive posting in Imperial. Second question...I guess I am needy...what is the best way to redo a porcelain enamel top to a dryer? Epoxy? Thanks! Panthera | ||

Have you tried contacting Whirlpool directly via their customer service number? It is on the website and if you have the correct model number they will let you know what is available in terms of parts, manuals, and so forth. Find Sears a bit better at having "old" information around, but hopefully Whirlpool has something. If not probably a member or two will chime in with other sources. Check eBay as well,almost everything is there at one time or another. L. | ||

Those casters should be around somewhere. Whirlpool's brand of replacement parts are "FSP" named, if you have the part number start contacting part suppliers, am willing to bet someone has them. As for moving the washer with "sliders". Had a GE "Spacemaker" washing machine similar to the vintage Whirlpool unit, and shoved it back and forth to the sink for ages. If the surface is smooth/level and the distance not great,shouldn't be a problem. If you cannot find "FSP" casters, more likely than not other appliance casters would work fine. IIRC the Whirlpool casters either screwed in or were attached with screws. Check eBay or appliance parts stores and see what you can come up with. We all like to have the real fish, but sometimes one has to think out of the box and be creative. Best of luck, L. | ||

Hang on i will get the wpool version of the user manual.. I have it.. BTW thats a 1986 model Kenpool.. You won't get the Books or repair gizmo through sears i don't think. I do know repairclinic.com had them at one time. | ||

According to Whirlpool, they do not stock parts after about 8 years after a model is discontinued, so that was the end of that query. The good news is Sears had parts for my dryer which is around the same vintage as your washing machine, so you might wish to give them a call. Just a note, Sears parts techs are more geared towards filling orders rather than running down a list of "what is there". However if you call with your make and model number they can tell you what if any parts they have in stock. L. | ||

Launderess, Thanks. Great that these machines have two such big parts networks behind them. I have learned through the years that if I have a model number for a "newer" machine, I can almost always find a solution at Sears. They are pretty locked into their NLA mentality and won't even look unless you lie to them. Since very few things actually change or can not be adapted this has always driven me crazy. For many years I would drive an extra hour to the Sears in Greely because their parts department had a nice woman who was creative. The Sears parts counter in Fort Collins had the attitude: We don't have it, we won't look for it, and if we did have it, we would not bother selling it to you. Greely never once let me down. My favorite experience: The agitator on a friend's washer needed replacing. Most folks here know that just 'bout every Kenmore and Whirlpool agitator is interchangeable and has been over several decades. Not to Sears in Fort Collins. "We don't stock such old parts. Replace the machine." Off to Greely. Well, shucks folks, no problem. You want a vari-vane, harvest-gold thrasher or... Motto of the story: Be thankful for people like you in this forum. Oh, and, uh, never throw anything away... | ||

We don't have a sears parts counter any more.. The dude was very nice and helpful though and he could find parts for just about anything.. BTW is it a Belt Drive or Direct Drive??? | ||

Two corrections: Whirlpool stated that once a model is discontinued they sell off parts to their network of Whirlpool repair persons and parts stores. The customer service person I was speaking to began to rattle off a bunch of parts stores in my state, but decided to contact Sears instead. Called one other store besides Sears for parts to my dryer and the conversation went like this: "I'd like to find out if you stock parts for my dryer" "What model?" "Whirlpool LE4900****" "What part do you need/what is wrong with the machine"? "Oh nothing, just want to see if parts can still be ordered" "You mean you are calling because nothing is wrong, but want me to check inventory"? "Yes". Could see by the tone of the parts person, one was rapidly becoming top contender for bored/dizzy broad of the month club,so asked did he have the heating element. Again was asked " what makes you think the heating element is broken"? By this point felt like really was making the man work for nothing as one had no intention ordering parts today, so just asked in general if the store had parts. They took my number and called me back to say they did, but now I feel like am on the hook to order something as they made such an effort. Sears parts was a bit more helpful, but the phone rep told me after 15 minutes of detailing what parts were available, if one was not ordering parts, they were not supposed to tie up the call giving general information. The nice young man simply told me to call again when ready to order parts and give the model number again, as that is what Sears parts uses to bring up what is in stock on their screen. Was also told because the unti was so old parts may not be listed on Sears.com, but that does not mean they are not in stock. Am willing to bet there must be quite a store of all sorts of parts in Sears wharehouses. L. | ||

I think that is very true. Don't know how often I have been told: That doesn't exist, only to see it behind the in-duh-vid-dual's shoulder. Do they really think we will buy more from them with that attitude? Not. Increasingly, I take my business to the little parts stores on the internet. Ok, there is a shipping delay. But they obviously want my business - they answer my e-mails and try hard to either get me the exact part or, when possible make a suggestion what else might work. Sears service varies so much from store to store it is just incredible. Sears Greely, Sears Cheyenne are pretty ok. Sears Ft. Collins has a "screw you" mentality towards their repair customers which is just incredible. Always has had, leastways since 1969...wonder why... | ||

Has parts and accessories for Whilrpool's LC4900 series washing machines,just follow the link. Will also display parts diagrams so you can see what is what. Sadly only list Parts Select part numbers not Whirlpool's. When you find the part you are looking for, by clicking on it you can not only order, but see what other models (usually Kenmore) use the same part. This may help you track down parts from Sears.com. Spent some time going though the site yesterday looking for parts for my Whirlpool dryer, and was surprised what they had, right down to Harvest Gold paint (in cans and spray). Parts Select also had tops, back, and side panels for my dryer in certian colours, including Almond and Harvest Gold IIRC. So there is hope they may have a top for your machine.
