Where were those Hoover Automatic Washers sold? I haunted many an appliance store from the late '60's on in the Tri-State region and I never remember seeing them anywhere. Were they gone by then?

That is an Australian Hoover--

in the POD.


The American top loading automatic Hoover washer and matching dryer were rebadged Blackstones. They were sold for just a very short time in the early 70s.

I've got a 520

Which is the base model.

4 water temps, infinitely variable water level, 2 main cycle types, Fast/Fast/Long and Slow/Slow/Short.

These machines have an action like a ramp activatored GE and hold a huge amount of clothes for that era. Those Hoovers are one of the few machines that holds more in a load than my 5.5kg Miele. The amount I can stuff into the Miele takes two loads in a large capacity DD whirlpool.
