Austin:

Is this the rebadged Hitachi (or was it a Sanyo) that you have?

Very interesting. The washer is identical to the one I have (a rebadged Hitachi), except mine's in white of course, and this one appears to have a plastic tub! I never knew they made them like this. The tub on mine is porcelain, but with a plastic balance ring at the top...the second (later) design. From what I understand the tubs in the early models from the 60's were completely porcelain, balance ring and all. The cycles were more limited, however.

Mine is a 1977 model, so with the plastic tub, it could put this one around the early-80's, perhaps?

Just for comparison

Here's an interior shot on mine.

that machine has the same controls as my old hitachi except the gentle cycle was a seperate switch *Gentle or Regular*. My hitachi is a bit older than that and has an agitator but the spin bowl is the same as my hitachi, it looks a cool set, wish i had the dryer that matched mine.

Hey I had that washer!

I had the Hitachi with a plastic tub. I remember being surprized at how fast the final spin was. I wish I still had it. If I remember, it was very easy to repair!

Was there any other imported vintage portable washers that were popular in the '50s thru to 80's?
