Thought you guys might be interested in seeing a couple of things. Tony and I are making arrangements to purchase an old home in Portland, OR. I suppose technically I have my first vintage washer/dryer pair now. There are also three vintage vacuums in the house, 2 Hoover convertables and a Singer Canister. The White-Westinghouse pair run perfectly by the way and look great!

Congrats BOYZ!

From what I can see when it becomes yours, you both may be just a WEEEEEE bit busy remodeling and redecorating.

Welcome to being new homo-wners!

Jon, I"m very happy for ya both!!! Can't happen to two nicer guys!! Those look like Westinghouse not White Westinghouse machines. Corss-vane tumble dryers are pretty cool.

WOOHOO!

Congratulations Jon, your first vintage set, I'm jealous! Of course I may have told you in Tucson that Westinghouse TLs are my favorite, hence the name :)

Sounds like some good vacuums come with the house as well. Those Singer canisters aren't exactly easy to find nowadays...

Portland is only 3 hours away!

Dear Jon and Tony.
If you need help, getting unpacked and cleaned up, give me a call. You will always be welcomed here if you guys want to come to Seattle.
House buying scared me and after I was moved in, I would wonder why I worried in the first place.
Best wishes
Kelly

Oh Toggle, you silly goose! Don't you know that avocado green appliances and variegated shag carpeting are back in?! If you just wait long enough, it always comes back sooner or later. :-) The good news is, there are double cement set tubs, so they can get a wringer for their collection too, one that can actually be used the way God intended.

Jon, this is so cool! I'm emailing you now.

*LOL*

Point well-taken.

Still nothing beats de-filthing someone else's mess and paying for their laziness/ bad habits.

But in the end they will have a piece of the rock; real-estate. YAY! Taxes, heating bills, maintenance. yards/ gardens. territorial nosy neighbors........

(ducks and runs)

Remodeling will be happening for sure! It is definetly a fixer-upper inside and out, but it's a really cute house built in 1915. Scott, unfortunately that nice, old double cement tub is broken and leaks so it may have to go. The Westy kicked into a spin and the sink drain was clogged, so the cracks sent water going in all directions. Think maybe I can just seal it?

Thanks so much for the nice messages guys. It's going to be a while before we actually move in. We have obligations to fill in D.C. for the next year, but by next summer the condo goes on the market for top dollar and we'll be truckin to Portland. Sounds like a lesbian couple doesn't it?

Kelly, I would never make you do work for us, but of course you'd be welcome to stop by. There is plenty of room for machines in the basement too so I'm hoping to have lots of folks over in the future!

BTW, the Westy's hadn't been used in at least a few years. The only thing I noticed it do was the water filled way too high. I had to reset it really fast or it was going to continue over-filling. Once I reset it then it was ok. I'm guessing it was just cobwebs.

Awesome John!

Congrats on the house and the goodies too!
The Singer canister looks like a C-7, that would date from about 1964-65-66 somewhere around there. I had one as my very FIRST vacuum back in 1975, given to me by my Aunt who'd burned out the motor in it.
Love the look of the Westy pair too, very sharp!

Hello and Welcome

I too live in the Portland area. It is fun to see the Northwest's vintage appliance lovers group grow even larger. There are some great places here to find vintage "stuff" as well as a lot of older homes with most likely many undiscovered treasures hiding in their basements and garages.

I know you will love it once you move here and get settled and I look forward to meeting you in the future.

Patrick

btw- I love the avocado GENUINE Westinghouse set!

Wowzers!!!

What a great set to start with! You'll love the capacity and capability of that washer. It has a kick-butt agitator. And YES, as Patrick noted above, those are GENUINE Westinghouse machines.

White-Westinghouse units don't have the blue W seal on the control-panel.

How fantastic!!! Congratulations!!

Just keep in mind I'm haven't caught the vacuum bug yet, so maybe there's a Hoover with your name on it. I had no idea the Singer was that old either. I know two of them work for sure. One of the Hoover uprights (which I will have pictures of next week) supposedly got damaged when a spring door stopper was picked up. Knowing the lady who owned this house, it's probably still stuck in there and she never bothered to turn it over and pull it out. I didn't get a chance to look at them myself either. This weekend we'll go back and I'll be sure to check them out and fire them all up.

It feels good to see everyone is so supportive of us with this moving. I'm so nervous about doing it, but I feel like it's the right thing to do. Tony is tired of being screwed with United Airlines and I'm tired of being screwed in the Army. We both feel like it's time to move on and just take the challenge head-on. I think we'll be ok. If not I'll be taking donations! haha

Can't wait till that Portland wash-in!

Portland tops my list as my favorite US city, not that I've been to them all mind you but plenty. Spent many weekends there, driving down from Vancouver back in the 70's but I won't go into the details behind the reason why on here LOL.
Now I'm feeling old, that seems like a lifetime ago :(
