Hi, I was wondering if someone could help me. I am looking for pictures of Frigidaire's Custom Imperial Washers & Dryers from between 1966 and 1969. I am working on a little project and I am in need of some reference images.

Thank you,

Mischa

Howdy from El Campo! Is Champagne Appliance will in business over there? I bought several Fisher & Paykel appliances from them several years ago.

davy1063, that's AWESOME!!

that is one beautiful machine! Just when did Frigidaire start using the plastic agitators (jet cones etc) instead of the rubber ones? When we moved to California in 1976 the house my parents bought came with a Frigidaire, it was an older one, and real basic. I remember it just had a dial for the load size and the main dial had like a 14 min wash that was hot water, 10 min wash that was warm and 8 min wash that was cold water, that's how you chose the temp. It had no cover on the agitator, and no 'rings' just the rubber pump part. I have never seen any pic's of a model like it, but have seen the agitator in some pic's here on AWO and it seemed to be around a 1958 model! When I got my 1977 1-18 a year or so ago, i was dissapointed to learn it had the plastic jet cone and not the rubber three ring nor the solid tub...but I still love it!

Thanks- James

thanks James, Yes, I love this machine. My wife says when our Calypso shits the bed, she wants the Frigidaire to take its place. I received this washer in trade from Rich (TrainGuy) for a 1959 WCI-59. This agitator, the "Deep Action" agitator still has a rubber diaphragm beneath the last cone. I believe so does the "JetCone" in the 1-18. Actually, Rich just sent me three brand-new in the original box rollers for the transmission. This machine runs like it did in '67. Gotta love the "Summer of Love"!!!!!

Hi Dave,
What a beautiful Frigidaire. Does this model have the dispenser that opens on the control panel?

WOW, Thank you so much

davy1063, thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. You are fantastic.
That is a beautiful machine. I love the style and elegance of the Frigidaire line from that time, it really had class. All I need to find now is images of a matching dryer :)

DADoES, Howdy to y'all down there :) yes Champange Appliance is still around and doing business as usual.

Mischa

P.S. could I be a pain and ask if I if it is possible get a shot of the whole machine? Sorry for being so demanding.

Peter,I can answer your question.Yes it does have the dispenser.the door is to the very left of the control panel where the FRIGIDAIRE logo is.It's cast metal and raises up.inside there are 2 chambers. One is for liquid detergent. The other is for fabric softner. The bleach cup is inside the agitator.I had one similar to it which was the WXL.It was an infinite speed model(1965)and had the window lid.

Oh, thats a beautiful '67!

Pull that "Deep Action" pulsator out and pop in a '63 or '64 "Three-Ring" and you've got an awesome machine!!!!!!

(I know, I know, the "authenticity nazis" are having a fit!)
But Blanche, its soooo much quietah and the roll-over soooo much bettah.

Could anyone tell me, which colors this set came in? We have the Milk Chocolate brown one, above here, which I am sure has an official name, and the aqua colored one that Dave posted. But which other colors are there?

So, does anyone know whether the Jet-Cone agitator has a "rubber" agitator diaphragm under the last cone like the Deep-Action agitator?

Is rubber better than plastic?

If so, why is rubber better?

How exactly does rubber work to make it better than plastic?

From pics of the Jet-Cone agitator diaphragm looks plastic but,I can't be sure.

Okay, I know I am a pain in the rear, but what exactly does it say on the console next to the dispenser. I can see Dispenser - Fabrics - but does it say Options and then something level?

In case you are all trying to figure out what the heck I need all this info for, I have a little website about the TV show Bewitched, and recently I have engaged in examining some of the props used on the show. Right now I am trying to work on items in the kitchen, and for those who are familiar with the show, the washing machine and dryer are in the kitchen. I searched all over the net, trying to figure out what they were, untill I landed here at this wonderful site where I found some close matches, but it wasn't until Davey1063 posted a pic of his wonderful Frigidaire that I had an exact match. Thank you for that, once again. Now I am in search of the macthing dryer.

1-18 pulsator diaphragms

Are not made of soft neoprene like the 3-rings, instead, it's a hard semi-translucent plastic material which does not break down over time due to use and wash additives. Even though I heard that Deep Action agitators have neoprene pulsators, there were a couple that I picked up from the Lampasas stash that were made out of the same hard material as the 1-18 pulsators. However, it is clear they were for a solid-tub machine as they had a D-shaped opening for the agitator shaft.

Rubber if much more flexible and causes waves in the water.

Welcome Mischa, what a fabulous web site you have! Very creative. There were four different washers on Bewitched, the first was a 1964 Maytag set in the NYC apartment for the first two episodes. Once they moved into 1164 Morning Glory Circle in Westport the first time I believe that they showed a washer was in the middle of the 2nd season. They used a Middle-of-the-Line 1965 Frigidaire washer and dryer for that shot. I posted a screen capture of that scene here a few years ago. Then from 1967 thru 1971 or so they used a 1966/1967 WCIL model like Davy posted above. Do you any screen shots of that machine, if so please post them? In the last season or two they went back to an early 1970's Maytag set.

WOW

Thank you Unimatic1140,

That is awesome information. I didn't even think about the early B&W episodes. Great to know what those are too.
Glad you liked my little site. I have fun making it. There have been a few times they showed a quick shot of the washer & dryer on Bewitched, mainly in season 4 which shows the WCIL-67 model as Dave posted. I do have a screenshot from that season, which is posted below. Do you know if there was a color chart for these models?

Thank you Westytoploader and I thought that the "rubber" would create extra, "flex-wave" water surge Unimatic1140.

That's definitely the reason why the 3-Ring Pulsator agitator can continuously turnover 5 pairs of jeans. Great information and thanks for confirming.

Harry

Beautiful machine,Davy! Very interesting website also. I loved the episodes for the cars they drove, I had a clip at one time where sabrina drove up in a 1967 427 Corvette that was black with a red stripe.

Thanks Patrick, I was looking all over for that screen capture, I'm glad someone saved it from a while back. I captured that image out of a 2nd season episode. That was the 1965 Middle of the line model. I was surprised they didn't use a Top of the Line machine.

You're both welcome. Robert, I saved that photo because I had fond memories of Bewitched and have a similar set with the round lighted dial like you see in the background. Glad I was able to help.

Bewitched Showcase for GM!

drewz's profile picture
Everything was GM, except for the console tv's and console stereo's by ZENITH!

Loved those rare GM cars, Vette, Malibu/Chevelle Convertibles, & those 2dr Caprice SS (68 & 69) with closing headlamps!

Later GM noted that of those Caprices w/closing headlamps only 800 were made for each model year 68 & 69, and Caprice up until final production in 1996 never had them again.

Thank you all and drewz, for all the information about this set.

Again, if you have any pictures of this set (besides davy1063's wonderful ones), the washer or the matching dryer (really need one of those) please post a few images of them here, or contact me via email.

Thanks

Mischa, I'll see if I can remember what those two banks of buttons were. The left bank of six were fabrics. The right six were options. The ones on the left I can remember were whites, colors, wash'n'wear white, durable press, delicates, and special. The options were cold water wash, cold water rinse, 2nd rinse, auto advance to wash from soak, cancel options, and I can't remember what the other one was for.

Glenn, it should be noted this machine had 4 spin speeds--gentle, slow, normal, and Rapid 1000. The Durable press cycle was identical to what the combinatinos were for models (Like Steve 1-18's Rapid Dry) that had Nomrmal, Gentle, and Durable Press "speed" options. And with Frigidaire turnover, washing results were quite good on those loads even with the slow agitation. I wish I could remember what the rpms were for gentle and slow. Normal was probably around 640-710 rpm as that was the highest rpm speed for the non-Rapid 1000 dry models in these Rollermatics.
