Hoover twin-tub

 Dear Retroroy,
Yes, i have one of these. i bought it when i was 12 years old at a garage sale for three bucks; i held onto it until a couple of years ago, when i bought my house and finally had room to restore it. It's a compact sized washer that has two tubs-the first tub has a rotary agitator that washes the clothes, and then the clothes go into the second tub, which is actually a small spinner that looks just like the inside of most automatics, (round tub with holes), except no agitator and the tub is no more than 8 or 10 inches in diameter. I think they were the next step after wringer-drying. Actually i've seen pictures of old wringer twin tubs that simply had two tubs, one for washing, one for rinsing and a wringer. However the one i have washes and spins. I also own a 30's-40's Easy compact; the neat thing about it is that first of all, it has a D.C. motor in it which makes it quite loud, sounding more like a vacuum cleaner; also, the inside tub and agitator are all one piece which sits inside the outer tub, and it has two gears on the stem that the tub sits on, one for back and forth washing and one for spinning. There's a button on the agitator that you push and the agitator/tub drops to the other gear to make it spin; however i need to fix that button because it's worn and the tub will drop to the other gear by itself. However, i've never seen a tiny portable like this that actually spins! i've also once seen an ebay auction for a water-forced spin dryer; it was just a holed metal spinning tub for clothes, powered by water pressure! Anyway, too much rambling, but i hope this helps. Sorry i can't send any pictures of my washer yet, but i know ebay has a couple of old wringer twin-tubs up right now. Sincerely,

Campy ad for an Easy Spin-Drier washer but the concept is the same with the GE in Overland Park you saw the ad for on Craigslist. Essentially a full-sized wringer washer tub with an Activator agitator and a spinner next to it - all in the same cabinet. These varied in styles over the years that GE made them, some even had a square wash-tub for a while.
