Incredible job on that restore, wow! Thanks for sharing with all the pictures, that chain drive for the controls is just awesome, and the lighted controls, just why can't they make anything like that now??

How was the washing and drying performance? How long is the total cycle?

Scott

No dear, you are a young spring chicken. She was conceived when her father was 14. That pic of you above proves it!

YAY lights dials and "tumble agitators."
Patented? WHY WHAT WHEN HOW!

Congrats on a fabulous job!

I just realized the drying blower generates a positive pressure (blows in). Does this create a lint issue as does the say Wards Singature or Norge brand dryer that does the same and are famous for flocking one's walls?

Hi Scott Hi Steve

jetcone's profile picture
The cycle takes about 30 minutes for wash and on a full load of cottons like today it took 55 minutes to dry.

Steve the lint is not a problem when the condenser spray is working properly as the stream pulls the lint from the air into the water and is pumped away. The heater box gets flushed out on every fill cycle so that lint is gone too.
The flaw in this machine was the condenser spray was not collecting the lint and the leaking heater box forced the user to stop doing wash in it so that lint never got cleaned out.
That is why this machine was sooo clogged with lint.

When I opened up my 1958 Keyboard machine the whole thing was spotless after 50 years of washing and drying together.

So combos need to be used for what they were built for the complete cycles.

Offtobed its been a big day cheers.

Oh I'll post one more pic>> the next project just got its trial test today and passed with flying colors:enjoy

Love it Jon! Beautiful machine you have there, for sure! Glad you got this one running and shared the great pixs. Makes me want a front loader too! <:
Vanna is a cute assistant to have. She reminds me of my niece Amanda. (my favourite niece that I like to spoil rotton) <:

Combos....the incredible magic!

It's alwasy been for me a magic the myth of combo washer/dryer
we say "lavasciuga"...

In a washing machine you put the dirty clothes in and after the cycle you get them off cleaned but the job doesn't stop there.... you have to procede with the drying operation with a dryer or hanging out on the dryline (what a awful due!!!)

Combos can make this magic bigger ...without thinking to what happend in the meanwhile, you make the same operation as you'd made withe a common washing machine but the same machine after the cycle dry everything and give back you the clothes CLEAN AND DRYED! Incredible that only one machine can make so much...

LONG LIFE TO COMBOS!

BYE
Diomede

PS I've always wondered why only Bendix combos were so popular while other brands (Kenmore, GE, Whirlpool) made combos but were so rare!

Jon, I only know you as a washer man not a family man, but if Vanna's not your daughter, certainly she must be a niece. The resemblance is striking: the eyes and brows, the shape of the face, the smile.

Also, you're going to make me a front loading man inspite of myself. You see, I've never really "gotten" front loaders, dismissing them as glorified dryers. But I must say that Miss Duomatic is a strikingly beautiful washing machine.

Love to know what the patented agitator looks like that is different from the usual front load mechanism.

Taking a wild stab: Your niece Vanna is beautiful !

Very nice machine you have there...and niece:):P
How is American W/D's compared with European W/D's?

Hey Diomede, Mike, Mikey, and Tom

jetcone's profile picture
What is the "sciuga" after lava? Lava = wash Sciuga =?
Does that mean dryer??
Yes I agree Combos' are magic. Especially Bendix because they were the first so they had the simplest mechanism which is why they were so successful.

Mike I have to have them all lined up for Jeff & Cal next month so they will definetly be ready for you in the Fall YAY!

Mikey The patented agitator was 2 short ribs and 2 tall ribs interspaced so that this created an uneven tumbling and breaks up the rhythym which stops the tangling and knotting other machines have. Because Bendix patented this the commercial machines were forced to patent the reverse tumble to prevent tangled balls of clothing. Ever see a Slant Front Westinghouse wash?? Tangle tangle tangle!

Hi Tom:
The only difference I see between the EU washer/dryer and these american washer/dryers is about 55 years of technology and capacity. But EU machines are starting to come up to larger capacities these days. I do find the Bendix Condenser system works much better than any other condenser system I have used in EU or Asian machines.

Combos rock!
jon

Jon ...

What a BEAUTIFUL restoration! :-) Congratulations on such a wonderful machine.

I love that door; reminds me of a steering wheel on 1950's Buick! Very classic in design.

Do you have the combo sitting on a slab or pallet? Does that work OK? Sometimes, here in Minnesota, you can still find older homes with concrete slabs in the basement where the washing machine/dryer would sit. That's how our first home was.

Sciuga=Dry! :-)

YOU'RE RIGHT!
We'd say...LAVA-ASCIUGA (=Wash-Dry)...but it doesn't sound well to pronounce it...so ASCIUGA loose the A and become only 'SCIUGA...so saying it together is LAVASCIUGA!

BYE!
Diomede

PS: Yes...always the simplest systems are the winners! :-)
