Well you know the kelvinator song thinggy that has Jill corey singing. Well i was messing around in sound recorder reversing it and when it came to the part where she was singing "Kelvinators best, Kelvinator! Kelvinator! Kelvinator! Kelvinator! Well i reversed it and it said End of wash! End of wash! End of wash! End of wash!

Its incredibly odd

Hidden message...further analysis

I found this hard to believe so I had to try it myself--how strange!! I downloaded it, converted it to WAV on MP3Decode, and played it in reverse on Sound Recorder.

Here's how it goes; the hidden message starts approximately 42.70 seconds into the reverse playback.

"Sub-Zero at the end of wash, Sub-Zero at the end of wash (another person this time), END OF WASH(er), END OF WASH(er), END OF WASH(er)!!" (This time in an opera-like voice) "Sub-Zero at the end of WASH IT WASHES..." (then it is jumbled again)

After that there are numerous times where you can hear "End of wash" and "Sub-Zero at the end of wash" in the song, as well as a man making a "mooing" sound several times in and repeating, "slithery, slithery, slithery" (this happens three times: once at approx. 70 seconds in reverse, a second time at 137.5 seconds, and last at 220.5 seconds)...thought that was pretty interesting.

Does it say:"Paul is dead" anywhere in the Kelvinator song?? LOL!! Never mind, you guys are MUCH too young to remember all the hype that one got the Beatles! Ask your mom and dad about it. (:

Actually, I heard it on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory in 2003 when they did a special on the Beatles and whether Paul McCartney was replaced or not after he supposedly "died" in a car accident at 5 AM...

They played "Strawberry Fields Forever" and reversed it and there was "I buried Paul...". Another song was reversed and had the unmistakeable sound of two cars colliding. Needless to say it was very strange.

Maybe this should be moved to the Super forum...

Anyone want to post the reversed wav/mp3? I'd be curious to hear it!

Ooh! Have we stepped into the Twilight Zone here?

Ok, here's one for you. In light of this latest discovery, suppose, one would record the complete wash cycle of a Kelvinator and then played it back backwards. I wonder what strange messages from beyond would be heard!!!

Any of you guys with Kelvinators up for a little bit of supernatural exploration? Ha! Ha!

Dennis

Here ya go Cory !

I dont know how well this is gonna work. I am no computer guru. But here is a link. I dont know how the sound level will be. The recording is a portion of Jill Corey forward. And then small bit of silence and the same portion reversed. Let me know how it works, if it does at all. Tom

Try going to the link using Internet Explorer instead of FireFox. Have your volume turned up a little, and listen.

Very freaky!

Subliminal Seduction!

That was very cool.
I don't know about this song, or if they intended it to be subliminal, but I know that during that time period, subliminal advertising was big. I read a book that was called
"The Art of Subliminal Seduction" and it was so interesting. It was from the middle 70's, and it focused in on print ads, and radio commercials. In the book they would show popular ads, and ask you to study them closley. Then on the next page, they would circle things that were there that the naked eyes could not see. Lot's of sex involved in the advertising. The best ads were those dealing with Liquor. Naked women drawn into the ice cubes in the drinks, etc. I think this sort of thing still goes on.
I loved the Kelvinator song. Did anyone notice that in reverse she was also saying "succulent sex"?
Thanks Landramat for uploading it to your web page.
Interesting!
I think that they jingle should have said "Kelvinator promises...succulent sex!" forward.
That would have gotten the sales up.
Brent

Did you hear the word "succulent" in the reverse version, Brent? I think I did...selling washers like a good steak - to the husbands!

In the past couple of decades, advertisers have apparently reduced the use of embedded imagery. They discovered that by simply providing richly-textured visuals (for example the complexity of ice cubes in a glass with a drink), individuals tend to project their own fantasies into the imagery, much as when seeing pictures in clouds or visual white-noise. That is, the advertisers don't need to put "sex" in the ice cubes, the viewers do it for themselves! Or, more specifically, the rich textures are "evocative" i.e. evoke feelings directly, without need of being interpreted as specific imagery.

This in turn has much to do with the fact that the brain is optimised for pattern-seeking. Given any noisy stimulus, the brain will organize it into patterns as far as possible. This is also where much of the "backward track" stuff in audio recordings come from. Consider that people routinely have to recognize intelligible speech in noisy environments: at parties, or in poor cellphone audio, or distant radio stations, etc. The same capability lets you pull meaningful information out of a backward audio track.

However, the use of subliminal stimuli did occur at one time, and probably still does to a limited degree. I have a folder full of examples that are so blatant it's impossible to miss them. I would guess that if it's still being done, some of it is the work of graphics people who are doing it for their own amusement, rather than something that's being ordered from on high.

And of course, advertising still makes use of motivational analysis and other more conventional psychological tools. These can be surprisingly potent, as evidenced by brand preferences in social groupings, and the degree to which people follow fashion trends in all categories of consumer goods.

The key to effective advertising basically boils down to being able to associate an emotional state with a product. There are numerous ways to do this, some of which are entirely respectable, others less so.

Here's what I'm hearing

I slowed down the wave file in Sound Forge and here's what I'm getting. LOOTTTSSS of stuff here. This is a virtual Stairway To Heaven.

(before the sub zero part I hear something about a "Gas Surface". Was she thinking about a stove?)
(woman speaking)
Sub Zero end of wash
(man)
Sub Zero end of wash
(Chorus)
End of washer end of washer end of washer end of washer
(woman sings)
Sub zero end of wash and I should say it's succulent.
(garbled)
My dignity if ever show it now once. Sing.
(instrumental break. The melody is very dark and spooky backwards.)
(men sing)
Slytherin, Slytherin, Slytherin a little boy (garbled)
A little boy who could not see in the water
A little boy a little boy who could not see it
(garbled speech)

(here's where it gets evil)
OOoooooo... Satan's now (garbled)
(men chant)
Enough with this Enough with this Enough with this Enough with this
(woman sings garbled)
Enough now stop it
(men)
Slytherin Slytherin Slytherin a little boy (garbled)
A little boy who could not see in the water

OOoooo..
(woman whispers(this gets sexual))
It feels naughty and a little (garbled) force her back... foreskin force it back like this. ready ejaculate your weener in the washer, it's smooth. Hooray this is Eric, yeah.
(man) Hey, this is Eric, too.

(woman sings)
Hey, this is Eric... shove it in the washer... shout...
And soon those all who know Holly Ann(???)... (garbled)

(extremely strange carnival sounding music plays)
(woman whispers)
... I wanna see you hurt that Sue lady... her (???) are now warm, said the machine, and shattered them in two. And Sue hurt the man that step out.
(man) A man ... too
(men chant garbled)
(woman sings)
... and I heard it in the wash the music... I hear Sue say that the hair is all of wool... take a shower with that on sing.
(men)
Slytherin Slytherin Slytherin (woman) the end of wash and I will shout and its not easy. Heard end of wash. end of wash end of wash
(a man says something and the song "ends")

OK, Analysis? I dunno. I'm hearing the word Sub Zero in the beginning. Was SubZ around back then? She says something about "showing her dignity" I wonder if this is something about the personality of the woman singing? We'll find out in the last few verses.

There's a section where the men are chanting the world "Sytherin". Maybe I'm hearing this because I'm a Harry Potter fanatic, but it does say something about a little boy who can not see the water. I have a theory that water is a metaphor for love. The little boy can not see the "water" meaning he has no love, hence Slytherin. Draco Malfoy?

The word SATAN is heard. Only once and then men chant "Enough with this". Maybe they were not really wanting to record this song? Then another round of Slytherin comes out and the little boy.

OK, now it gets nasty and this woman starts naming NAMES! Who are/were Eric, Holly Ann, and Sue? Is this some kind of love triagle going on? Perhaps Eric dumped Sue for Holly Ann????? Who know. Of course there's explicit talk about putting "Additives" in the wash. At the end we hear "Slytherin" and shouting the end of wash, and it's not easy.

Here's my theory. The singer is Sue and she got dumped by Eric. Eric is the Slytherin, or slithery little boy. He dumped Sue for Holly Ann. He did something naughty in the washer, meaning he had sexual relations with Sue after all. Water means love so Sue is exclaiming "END OF WASH" meaning the end of her relationship.

End of Message End of Message End of Message.

Sub Zero

(lightbulb lights up over my head)

Of course, Sub Zero could mean cold or freezing. Kinda like the feeling after you've been dumped.

Maybe of interest

Have any of you seen the video of "Hells Bells-The dangers of rock & roll." I saw this last year and i was spooked to say the least.
Of course it explains that backwards masking is sometimes done by artists, but there were things on the video that defy explanation.

Hells Bells

Yes, I saw this movie. I am a Christian and had to watch this movie in youth group. I kinda got what they were trying to say but sheesh, as much hard rock, heavy metal, rap, and everything else I've listened to in my lifetime. I should be a satan worshipping, drug using, beer drinking, people killing bad guy.

Nope, I'm just a coaster fanatic with a VW Beetle; AC/DC mp3s and all.

I wouldn't take much of all that stuff seriously. That's what I thunk I heard and made up the story. It's succulent.

I was starting to worry there....

Jason, the whole area of reverse speech is inconclusive at best, and I'm skeptical about the claims that guy makes on his webpage. Or, the mechanism is different: a person "hears" a reverse message because they are subconsciously assembling something that is meaningful to them, out of sounds that are otherwise not meaningful. In other words, similar to gazing into a crystal ball. I have no problem with people gazing into visual or acoustical crystal balls, or doing other kinds of consciousness experiments, just as long as they maintain a balanced attitude about it.

Re. satanic influences in music: I think that certain elements in the religious community are falling into the same trap as the old liberal-left, of trying to blame society for individual choices and failings, rather than taking personal responsibility. There's a lot in the media today that's just plain disgusting, but it seems to me the saturation-exposure to raw violence is doing a lot more harm than the comparatively rare satanic references and suchlike.

Meanwhile you're hanging out with a bunch of gay folks here, and I'm willing to bet it's not "making" you any gayer than you were the first day you dropped in here, which is to say, not at all.
