I'll have to look into that and get back to you. My guess is that they were made much later than 1949, judging by the advertising and service literature that I have in our store. We were a Blackstone dealer. I even remember selling a brand-new wringer (Speed Queen), probably late 1970s or early 1980s. Fred |

I got my Tag & Norge wringers from The Kolipinsli Brothers Appliance store on Broadway Avenue, during the mid to late 80's. Buying two wringers was insane enough, but that was ages before I would discover all of you crazy brother freaks like me. So buying three of them was too far over the edge, the third, of course being a Blackstone. How I wish I could turn back time, Cher. Anyhoo, Old Ted, ever indulgent, fired up up the Blackstone for me, and its memory is distinct and permanent. The agitator was black, 3-vaned, the bottom plate narrow, the fins attached and not protruding beyond the plate, in other words, not too promising. Until, the motor fired. And then......Sweet Jesus, it was as fast as a Whirlpool DD, but full-stroked, and it made such a cool noise, a very light chain-chugging sound, great energy, great original and unique sounds, and great fun. How I wish I had been a greedy unembarassed pig, and bought it. Then I could take pix for you right now. The machine was made in the late 60's or early 70's. It was a beaut. No other Blackies in my repertoire, but there is always hope. The agi cap had a distict black criss-cross or X, 3D' on top. Later, Dudes Mike |

I found some sales literature from 1957, listing three wringer models: 130A; 136 (economy version); and 331P (deluxe version). I found another sales sheet displaying many different models, all beginning with the letter R. For example, RA, RB, RC, and RP (with the P denoting the pink tub). No date on this sales sheet, but the wringers have the more modern Blackstone diamond logo on the cabinet, which the company started using in the early 1960s. Perhaps the production of these models continued throughout the 1960s, without design changes? Maybe I will find more info. |
