I am toying with idea of buying one of these as we never seem to have enough to run the big dishwasher (we don't cook right now because its too much on me to both cook and clean).. Does any one have any experiance with one of these puppies??? Thinking about buying one but unsure where to start..

I have the Edgestar countertop dishwasher. I think it does a pretty good job, however, it's quite tricky to load plates into not because of the size of the machine, but rather that the spray arm is so close to the bottom of the rack. It gets stuck easily.

Counter Top Dishwashers

I had a Danby for a while and it actually worked very well. Once you get used to the limited space, you can find unique ways to get a pretty good load in them.

In-sink dishwasher. $6

Dishpan in left side of bowl. Rinsing in running water on right side. Works even with a double-bowl sink.

Didn't you once say money was tight?

Since you mentioned a full-sized DW, you may want to consider place-settings for 8 or 12. Then you can wait until the DW fills up and THEN run it, full. Even if it takes a few days to achieve that status.

Saves water, saves time, saves energy, saves money and no inital outlay!

Bosch-Load

We used to have a Bosch countertop dishwasher. I had to use it again last year when our regular AEG broke down and have to say that I was very pleased with its performance - washed fast and held a day worth of dishes for a family of three persons.

Here are the pictures (first pics is our new Siemens, then the old AEG and then the Bosch countertop):

Hi, when we moved into a property with a smaller kitchen we stored our large dishwasher and bought a small zannussi worktop one and it was excellent, we used it 3 times a day ie one load for pans one for main dishes etc and we found it washed better than our full size dishwasher and the average wash time was shorter aswell i would reccomend one if space is of a premium. we actually had ours built in under the kitchen sink we took out the shelf and plumbed it in there and it just fitted snug

Hi Chad:

No experience with one of those. BUT, PSST, I do know that you can run the "Big one" even though it is not full. WINK.

Toggles heres our sink.. Notice the lack of depth in it and also the lack of a place to put a dish drainer.. LoL Besides who wants dishpan hands

Bottom Rack
I fell so awful not running it at full capacity.. Doesn't seem fair to make it do so much work for so little (yes very stupid my other half said that was a stupid thing to say it was an applince and had no feelings).. I found an Edgestar for $50 on clearence and may go get it today if nothing else t play with

That dishwasher should clean up a storm if loaded right. It doesnt look that old at all. Maybe its not getting enough of a water charge because if it didnt that would lead me to believe that there wouldnt be enough pressure in the wash system.
I would check to see how much water is getting into it after a fill and if I remember right...it should be just under the heater or at it. And what detergent are you using?...Gels dont work unless its Cascade. I use Cascade Complete powder or the Electrosol 3 in 1 tabs. Always get great results. Or if your frugal then the Great Value from WalMart is good too.
Also a tip dont load tall items near the round cutout in the center of the rack. Plates should go either in the front or in the back. I always loaded plates in the front and pots and pans in the back of the lower rack. The top rack the glasses between the tines..like what you have in the pic. Since there is no top arm you cant pack the top rack with alot since the water has to somehow get thru to wash the top of the load.
MY 3 cents worth.

So it's not full....use the Rinse & Hold cycle if you have to until it is. Why spend the extra money if you don't have to? Didn't you say money was tight previously? Some folks, believe it or not, only run their dishwashers once or twice a week.

There appears to be an equal and opposite reaction!

Sploder, the solution to your problem could be a new Bosch dishwasher--if you weren't renting. My sister just bought one and it apparently has a way to shut off one of the wash arms so you can do a small load on one rack only. I don't know what the water savings would be with this method but it has made me curious.

Money is a little tight.. Not into sharing too much bout my finacials but i spent $57 more than i took in last month, not bad considering all the travel i did. I was eyeing it mainly due to the price and the novelty... But alas i will control my self... Besides i might have a tag on a used 18" Whirlpool... But the owner needs to get off his butt and hurry up and throw it out (he's remodling his kitchen and said i could have it).. Now to turn it into a portable...

i love my danby!

mistereric's profile picture
I bought a used danby machine from CL a while back - looks like the edgestar. We have it here at the office, on the floor under the sink. Its hooked to a cold water supply and heats the water on its own with the SaniWash feature. I've been VERY impressed with it - the water gets hot enough to burn your fingers if you try and take the dishes out right after the cycle. Sometimes we have problems with residue if i have cream-of-wheat, but thats like cement to begin with.

I have another one I picked up and repaired a while ago on CL now for sale. I would reccomend this one over the Haier models - it seems much more robust, just like a regular model but scaled down.
