Hello all.

Well we all like our new Maytag A806 so much that we feel it looks lonely next to our 80's alliance Ultra Dry dryer. So now I will be looking for the matching dryer locally. I am guessing that the corresponding electric dryer model for the A806 washer is the DE806. Is this right, and are these good dryers?

Thanks.
Liam

PS
The washer is a series two 1976 to 1980, will the dryer also say series two? This is not a halo from hell dryer is it?

Liam - for a perfect match - you would be looking for a DE808. Starting with the Big Load dryer series - the 06 nomenclature for the HOH dryers was to be replaced by the 07/08 model series for the Big Load. A DE608 would be the non-lighted panel, and the DE808 would be lighted. Good dryer. 608 dryers are a bit easier to find than the 808 dryers, but the 808 dryer is no where near considered an endangered species - yet!

Matching Dryer

What was good about Maytag in this era is that almost any washer matched any dryer visually, what with the center dial and all, until you get to the Top of the Line. I have a halo-of-heat DG906 and I think it dries clothes fabulously, and for some reason much softer and less wrinkles than my Whirlpool dryer. Maybe halo of heat were more troublesome as electric dryers, but I just love my Halo from Hell gas dryer. I think it was a good concept: Create heat from the front, spin the clothes and suck the moisture out the back.

Maytag dryers, in my experience....

I have only owned Maytag dryers, both HoH and Big Load, and the Big Load derived Dependable Care, and I have always been very pleased with their performance.

My right hand dial dryer was the first I had with the pilotless ignition, which is good, because the pilot on a Maytag is a witch and a half to light.

They may not be the fastest dryers, but they (for me) have been very quiet and rock-solid dependable.

We have a Maytag DE 308 Big Load dryer of the same generation as your A806. It would match, sort of, without the lit backsplash. If you're interested, email me quickly at kjayvazian@comcast.net, or else it's going to go with my Mother's house sale. After that, I assume it will go to the Krusher.

Thanks everyone for responding to my dryer questions. bajaespuma thanks for the offer of your DE 308 but shipping an appliance is out of the question for me right now, so I wont be able to get it.

I agree with the hellish halo comments re: electrics. My electric had its heating coil break and the two ends contacted the cabinet and turned it into a giant heating plate. Good thing I was home at the time or a fire would have ensued for sure. No such problem with the gas dryer that replaced it. Best dryer I ever owned. It was much faster than the electric and purred along until one day the drum started in with a horrible screeching noise that couldn't be fixed. Never had a problem lighting the pilot on mine when necessary.

Liam, my gas dryer had the lighted panel and "electronic control" which was the easiest thing in the world to use. Just rotate the dial according to the fabric you were drying and push to start. No settings, no timer, it knew all of that already. I suggest trying to find a similar model in electric. I think towards the late 70's they had likely made improvements to the electric models and there's no question that the new washer needs its companion dryer now.

DE808

Does anyone here have any pictures of a white Maytag DE808 dryer? I pretty much know what it looks like, but it would be nice to see one.

Thanks.
Liam
