Hey guys,
Yep another one to the collection! I got myself a 1996 Hotpoint Ultima WM43! 1400rpm 5.5kg!

Its still in my car until the strength arrives in the form of lavamat jon lol. Whom helped me pick it up...I will tell you the story of how and where we got it.

I got it for £13! Yes £13! off ebay! Strange considering i paid £41 for a zip up top on ebay this week aswell & i end up paying £13 for a machine that retailed around £500!

Well it was only half hour away in Scunthorpe. This guy lived in a creepy part of the woods..his house was dark and old. I knocked on his front door twice. Then this voice came from the side "can i help ya?" "oh. i'm here to collect the washing machine" i said. "Come on then" He was ya typical blokey bloke. "Give us a hand then" he demanded. Not wanting to be cut up with an axe we were quick up the 5 concret steps up into his house. Jon had to help him carry it down the steps. I wasnt strong enough lol. didnt wanna drop it...lol

So that was the tale of how i aqquired it. Now let me tell you about it!

Its really clean! Cept for a few marks that will wipe off. It is still Polar white not yellow.

Interestingly it has a flat glass like early hotpoints as opposed to the curvy style one they had for all the WM's. I've taken a pic of this so you get what i mean.

He plugged it in so i could see the display work.

Its 1400rpm. I've never seen a real hotpoint do 1400rpm. The fastest i saw was an almond 9524 with a spin slider that did 1200. That was real fun!

It came with an instruction book.

Strange thing is the back panel is like the hotpoint washer/dryers with the pipes on the botton right hand corner. Does anyone know why this is?

I will update as the day continues with pics and vids!

Darren

And the display. Excuse the blurring, its still laid on its back in the car. so it was real difficult to take pics

I am excited! :-)

Wow, Darren! :-)

I can’t wait for more info, pics and some vids, but take your time and have fun with it first! :-)

As you know, we had a Microtronic L.E. from 1983 until 1995, which I loved, so I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing this! :-)

Take care. :-)

Regards,

Carl :-)

Heres a pic!:D

We tried it out on a cotton 60. it tells you what temperature its heating to. First 30, then 40, 50 & finally 60! It tells you which part of the cycle ur on. Wash, heat, rinse 1,2,3,final rinse, final spin

Very nice machine. It has a FHP motor! So it sounds totally different from a hotpoint lol!

Curious as to the tape on hoover to the left

Post# 213402 , Reply# 9   5/31/2007 at 16:36 (6,171 days old) by hotpointwf220 ()

I believe (from another thread) that he power button doesn't stay in so he used tape to keep it in.

Thats correct! Tape is for the powerbutton, haven't gotten round to getting a new power unit yet, so the tape will do. though its an eyesore.

Im just uploading videos onto youtube of the hotpoint now!

2nd rinse! The water level do change on this model it has automatic water level adjustment, the final rinse is quite high!

Notice the sound is quite different, It has an FHP motor, which is the replacement indesitcompany motor for the GEC motors!

So it has its own rather unique sound!

Interm spin! The interm spins start with a distribution, a burst, then it will stop and redistribute, go up to 400rpm for abit then stop redistribute and go up to 1000rpm!

This is the 400rpm stage

This is the final rinse, much higher water level, at the end of this rinse and very similar to my quartz and modern hotpoints, it will throw everything into distribution and then start the drain!

very fun!!

and the final spin video! I will try to get this in full when i have enough space on my cam to film it!

The profile spin is as follows:

Distribution to an initial burst at about 400rpm to get the bulk of the water out. it will stop redistribute up to 400rpm for about a minute or so and stop

Redistribute-up to 800rpm for a couple minutes,

stop then redistribute up to 1000rpm for a fair few minutes then it jump up to 1400rpm! Not for a massive amount of time though!

then it does an anticrease. and stops and beeps its head off!

That's a very nice Hotpoint you've got there, it looks great!

It must be the first high-end Hotpoint to use the Ultima name if I'm right in saying.

And as I noticed in the pictures, it is next to 1 of it's main competitors: The Hoover New-Wave. Which was obviously made at the same time as this!

Excellent! :-)

Darren, I’ve watched all of your videos, and you… you… you… you make me sick! ;-) hehe

You have some of my favourite washing machines ever – the Hoover New Wave and the Hotpoint Ultima (and the Zanussi)! :-)

It’s just not fair! ;-) *Carl kicks his Miele in frustration, but the Miele fights back just by sitting there, and Carl ends up in hospital* ;-)

Lovely machines you have there, Darren. :-) Can I have one? Pleeeease?! ;-)

Take care. :-)

Regards,

Carl :-)

Hi Darren

What a great find, these machines are getting rarer and rarer.

You're building quite a collection there. I must come up and see it sometime.

All the best

Rob

Done about 10loads so far! Now i have to do my parents washing too as the AEG in the house is broken! She goes like a dream! Thanks to those who've replied so far!

Heres a pic of abit of a sudsy situation with some towels!

Darren, you have enough washers now for you to ‘race’ them! ;-) LOL Can we bet on them? My money’s on either the Hottie or the Hoover winning in a race on a standard cottons or synthetics cycle! LOL ;-)

I’m not sure how you have them all plumbed in – maybe only one at at time – but it would be great if they could all be plumbed in at the same time and running at the same time! Imagine the noise! Well, the Zanussi would be purring away, but the others… LOL! :-)

I was wondering if your machines would be pressed into regular service in light of the fact that your parents’ AEG is broken. :-) Which machine is the temporary ‘replacement’, or do they take turns? ;-) Does your Mum know how to use them, or do you strictly forbid her to even breathe on them because of what she did to the AEG? ;-)

Hope you get your AEG sorted quickly. :-) Your washers are not for family use – they’re for playing with. ;-) hehe

Take care. :-)

Regards,

Carl :-)

Of the three machines...

...the Hoover "New Wave" looks the most elegant, with its sophisticated sweeping curves.

The 'functional' design of the Hotpoints always put me off them (too bland looking).

I always wondered why manufacturers never provided more cycle information during the wash. Thanks to yourself, I now know they did (at least once upon a time!).

New Wave on off switches ;)

seamusuk's profile picture
Darren

There are 2 switches for this machine- if its a single pole switch with 2 terminals you need 09090010, if its double pole with 6 terminals its 09074857- both should set you back somewhere around £8-£9 ish

Carl!,
I run them using Y piece connectors and extendable drainhoses atm! can only run two at a time until i buy some more Y pieces lol.

The temporary replacement was the Hotpoint, mum was familiar with that because of our old hotpoint!

Rolls, have to agree the sweeping curves and overall style of the newwave is exceptionally elegant, i dont think it looks out of place in a modern kitchen.

Seamus-Thanks for letting me know which switches i need, i hadnt got round to it as the tape has been doing its job!

Thanks for all who've commented so far!

Hi Darren

machine looks great - especially now all cleaned up.
Discovered its matching dryer on ebay - would look great stacked on top of your machine.
You tempted?
Down in Marlow though - bit of a distance involved from Lincoln.

Cheers
Paul

Hi Darren, that is quite a nice Hotpoint. I enjoyed your vid's. We have very similar AEG's I see, I have the 74620. Tell me, does your Servis Quartz have the solid stainless tub (I think they call it Spin Care)? I would love to see one of those machines in a video.

Hi Darren, I found them, they're great. Do you think you could take a picture of your Servis Quartz drum for me? That would be fantastic if you would. I've never seen a solid tub front loader before, it amazes me.

thank you Darren!

eddy1210's profile picture
That's a nice tub, too bad they don't produce these anymore. You're very lucky to own one! It's a good looking machine. You would think more manufacturers would jump on the solid tub bandwagon especially in light of Miele's honeycomb® drum which has so few perforations. I hear Miele has the patent on that until 2017, but this is equally gentle on fabrics esp for the high speed spins.
