it's honestly hit or miss. My aunts have a Neptune set from 1998 and they had a door latch, wax motor and rear bearing failure all under warranty. Since then, it's been running great. You have no worries about the dryer. It's their same dryer design right after "halo of heat." I use the Neptune washers at the commercial laundromat and they're wonderful. Someday, i'd actually like to find a used Neptune set for myself when the day comes. |

I had 1998 Neptune washer and dryer. I did have some problems with the wax motor door locks and motor control circuit board. Both replaced under warranty. No problems with the dryer at all. In 2004 I decided to get something new and sold them to my brother. To this day he still has them and working fine. I then went to Sears and purchased the Kenmore Elite front loader and matching dryer. Kenmore/Whirlpool almost the same thing. I hated them! Your right! They are very noisy! The washer shook the entire house at high speed spins.(Machine was level) It seemed to have very little water in it when going through the cycle. I did not care for the pull out drawer soap dispencer. Trying to pour bleach in the little tiny square you have to have really good aim and very steady arm. The dryer also did not care for. Always had this hum to it,did not like the lint filter, and realy did not like the cool down cycle. The dryer goes into tumble on/off for cool down. What is the point if the clothes are still hot sitting in the dryer WAITING for the next tumble? After 6 month with the Kenmore's I decided to take them back. Sears was really good about the return (full credit) I then purchased another Maytag Neptune washer and dryer. I love them. Much more user friendly. The washer is very quiet and it is much easier to get the soap in with the soap dispencer on the top of the machine. No drawer! The dryer is also very quiet, drys clothes really well and fast too. The lint filter is much easier to pull out. The cool down cycle is much better, continuous for the first 10 min, then after the clothes are cool will going into on/off tumbling. I have had no problems at all with my 2004 Neptunes. Jim |

The current Neptunes are made by Whirpool's daughter company(Bauchnect)in Germany. They are now called the Epic and are replacing the KitchenAid line(Ensomble)of front loaders which Whirlpool has gone 100% professional on.I have that model by KitcheAid and let me tell you,it has been one of the best performing front loading washers I have ever owned. It is very quiet, very efficient, saves water and cleaning aids,Easy to operate and holds tons of laundry.Fun to watch and I went and placed string lights inside the outer and inner door windows! They make it so neat to watch especialy at night. As far as shaking and noisy are concerned, the manufacturers tell you in the use and care instalation books they do not recomend placing their front loaders on any floor above the first or basement. The weight of the wet clothes combined with the rpm the machine is spinning whrether it is level or not will cause serious vibrations because the floors it is on are just not strong enough unless they have a concrete base underneath. No matter what you do,it just won't work.

The last of the domestic Neptunes are mechanically the same as the ones sold to the coin-op market. They are still American made for now, quite sturdy, reliable and functionally robust. It seems for each naysayer out there, there are plenty of satisfied users, including laundromat owners. Go for it while you can. |

of production the MAH 3000 models and have never had one problem with them. From what I have gleaned in reading those first machines made in the first 6 months of production just run and run and run! I really like my washer. The dryer is good too but no one makes a dryer as well as WP! Our Local Maytag dealer has the Amana badged washer and dryer. |

Hi: The manual says to run a bleach load once a month because there have been mildew problems with Neptunes. The problem has been greatly decreased since the door boot was redesigned, but FL's seal very tightly (as they must to keep the water in). That promotes mildew if some chlorine bleach is not used periodically. Leaving the door open is an option some owners follow. Your new Neptune will have the redesigned door boot (the old one did not allow water to drain out of it; the new one does), so do not worry about that part of it. TLs seldom mildew because there is not a tight seal when the lid is closed; air can get to the tub and agitator. Even then, rust can be a problem on TLs left wet in humid environments. Just do what Maytag says and you should be fine. |

So is there a date/serial number range to be wary of? (door latch, wax motor, rear bearing?) Always been tempted by the Neptunes, but can only afford used and would want to avoid potential problems. |
