I notice the '47 is not down at the end anymore. It it now in a more prominent location? A great line-up of Frigidaire history! |

Great pixs Robert! Love your collection and the basement! The 57's look great together. I'll have some pixs of my 57's when I get the water valve resealed. Am going to try some plumbers sealer this time, and will try to get to it this weekend. If this doesn't work, will prolly switch out the valve with something else. Still have to have a warm wash and rinse though. <: |

Well thanks everyone for such nice comments. Yes I’ve been doing some rearranging to the machines downstairs. I wanted to get the Franklin/Wizard (the pig) out of storage and hooked up but in a very non-prominent location, so I moved my three “Ugly Ducklings” machines to the back corner where the two Control Towers used to be set up. I moved the ’58 Turquoise set near my ’57 Pink Lady Kenmore set, I like the pink and turquoise sets near each other. I’ll take more pictures soon. **GASP!!!** I just noticed, there is a non Frigidaire in the Frigidaire Gallery??? WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO?!?!?! Hi Jamie, yes my old “Frigidaire Gallery” is now becoming the “South Gallery”. The machines you see starting from the far wall are: 1959 Philco-Bendix Duomatic 1952 Frigidaire WO-65-2 1952 Frigidaire TR-60 Filtrator 1955 Frigidaire Imperial Unimatic WV-65 1957 Frigidaire Imperial Unimatic WI-57 Control Tower 1957 Frigidaire Imperial Pulsamatic WD-57 Control Tower 1949 Youngstown Jet-Tower Dishwasher and on the far wall which is not shown in the pictures above is the 1955 Frigidaire Pulsamatic, then the drama-filled but butt-ugly machines are on off in their own corner. GORGEOUS as ever!!! Alex has been bugging me about when he can come see your collection, once I have saved up a little money for a plane ticket, you should have a wash-in! lol! “Alex has been bugging you”, LOL are you sure it’s not the other way around mister :). Jamie you and Alex are welcome anytime, Neal and I would to see both of you. And I’ll try and arrange a wash in for when you are coming. More Pictures, More pictures! I’m working on it ;) How many Frigidaire washers do you have, Robert? I noticed the '58 and the very early ('49-50?) machines weren't in the picture. The '57s are sleek and unique, but my heart belongs to that gorgeous turquoise '58, pitter-pat... Hi Eugene, well lets see for Frigidaire washers I have: 1 1947 1 1952 2 1955 (one Unimatic one Pulsamatic) 2 1957 (one Unimatic one Pulsamatic) 1 1958 And 1 “Super-Unimatic" but that machine really doesn’t count. Why are there virtually no Frigidaires whatsoever in western New York, and what does one have to do in order to get one? Hi Mike, because they are rare everywhere now! They are there, but it’s a needle in a haystack. I am very fortunate to have the machines I have now. I notice the '47 is not down at the end anymore. It it now in a more prominent location? Hi Steve, yes I put all of the “First’s” together next to each other. So the 1947 Frigidaire is next to the 1947 GE which is next to the 1949 ABC-o-Matic which is next to the 1949 Maytag AMP. Oh pleezee, It's just a pulsamatic!, Bottom of the Line! WHAT OOOOH the NERVE, you are in big trouble Mister, you better watch your step, or one twitch of my little Nose (OK maybe it’s not that little) and you find yourself suddenly sitting there at work wearing a Mr. Bubble Gum Ensemble. I can’t wait to see the expression of Maureen’s face. |

1. Lift chrome arm on can opener, 2. Insert can under cutting blade, 3. Push down hard on chrome arm and can opener will start, 4. Once cutting blade has gone around the entire can, lift chrome arm to stop can opener 5. Pour contents of can into a turquoise pyrex bowl. 6. Enjoy your bowl of worms with a nice cola. |

What with your bowl of worms and a nice cola . And your precise surgical diction and tone.............. Hanibal Lector......I ate her liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti I'm laughing but amazed at the power of words to suggest such things as Dr. Lector talking to Clarice. "I have to go now Clarice, I'm having a friend for lunch." Yesterday, Robert Vegomatic talked about seeing more of your dark side. How exciting. |

Now remember, everyone's opinon on what is pretty and what is shall we say "less than beautiful" is different, but here is what I think are my three least appealing machines (looks wise) in the basement. Granted looks are skin deep, I just adore every one of these machines as each one has more drama than the next!

Such a cool looking "space age" machine that Easy is Robert! Are you ever going to try to restore the console on that one? I remember the cool demo you made of that one. Thanks Rick, probably not. The Easy is one of those machines that is really cool, but if something older and even more fun comes in (Apex, Launderall, etc.) it would be on of those machines I would find a home for to make room. BTW, I love the woodgrain on the Kelvinator, is that real? As real as a plastic press can produce :) Calling that Kelvi "ugly" because it is "new"? Oy, I could give you such a klopf (sp)! For shame! Oh Peter, Picture me holding my head in shame! Sorry but I'm simply more of a mid-century 40's and 50's style kinda boy. Our whole house is that way. |

Beautiful Robert! Just beautiful!! I do like the turqoise and pink together. They just compliment each other so well. Love the way you are able to move your collection around from time to time. Seems that would be a very fun thing to be able to do. I am sort of "land locked" with my collection, and I only have about 6 washers and 4 dryers. One of the problems with really old homes like mine, is they usually did not have a full basement. At any rate, it is always fun to see whats going on in your basement, and I always look forward to your latest basement pixs. |

Of the "fabulous firsts" did any of those companies make a fully automatic-cycle bolt down before these? I know kenmore, Bendix, Launderall did and how do they fit in - they are kind-of inbetween machines. |

Hi Brian, no all four of those machines are those companies’ very first automatic washer, none of them made a bolt down before these machines. For Frigidaire, that is the very first clothes washer they ever made period. Frigidaire never made wringer or twin-tub style washers before their automatic like ABC, Maytag and GE did (at least in the USA). My '47 WJ-60 Frigidaire and the '47 AW6 GE are the only one of those very first models that I know of left in the world, so I really treasure having them. I'm sure there are more out there, they just have not turned up as of yet. Uni, hang on to that Harmony. It might be a classic 30 years from now! (Assuming we can keep the electronics going...) Well it’s in brand new condition because I hardly ever use it. I think the last time I did a load of wash in it was back in March. The only time I ever use it is if I don't want to pay any attention what so ever to the laundry. That will probably just stay with the house when we move sometime in the future. There is still more in basement to be shown and I will photographic those later. |

What does "AMP" mean in Maytagenese? Hi Marty, AMP means Automatic with Pump, model AM was Automatic without pump, it was a gravity drain model. These machines had a solid basket with a perforated liner and a water level switch built right into the lid, a float inside the center of the agitator rose with the water level and press the button in under the lid to start agitation. Very primitive, but it worked. |
