This answered some of my questions about how the non-electronic "automatic" cycles worked. I'm posting these for anyone who's interested:

This auto-dry system is different than the "compensated control" of the earlier 60's dryers. Most used double pole thermostats to control heat. Thermo closed, heat on; thermo opens on heat rise, heat stops and timer advances. This system uses a resistor to control advancing of the timer when the heat is off instead of a double pole operating thermo.

Yes, Compensated Control is very different

Hi,

Having a compensated control GE and two that are not, they are very different. I now have my V-12 dryer working. I am looking for a good used or new thermostat with sensing bulbs and the resistor tube for the compensating bulb of the thermostat.

I know mine are out of calibration and the thermostat lacks an adjusting screw, as it may have been replaced at some time. If anyone has parts for sale, or knows who might, thank you in advance for the lead.

Happy drying,

Mike

Mike,

If you have it, would you scan the schematic for that dryer? I'm curious to see the differences.
