What on earth would you want one of those awful sets from Maytag's darkest days for. I'd take just about anything, even a modern BOL Frigidaire over those Amanatags. Liam |

This is not like my Amanatag, but based upon my personal experience I can only say one thing... DANGER Will Robinson DANGER DANGER!!! (Arms flailing wildly) STOP!!! Amanatags are a dangerous breed. They are none too reliable, don't clean too well, tend to flood peoples houses, and are a ROYAL B!@#h to work on. Please, get something better! Ducks and covers, Dave |

This looks like the old style Amanas. Are these Amanatags? I thought they were like the Performas. Can someone help me out? |

It does look like those are Amanas not Amanatags. I'd still give them a miss though. Liam |

These are definitely just Amanas before the Maytag takeover. I would not buy these machines. If the washer is noisey, I'd think main seal & bearing, & $$. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the new SQ machines based on these pieces o' junk?? They were from the same company at this time & the new SQ's look very similar to these. I wonder how they'll hold up down the line since these machines here were prone to leak whatever fluid they had (mainly oil & water).

You know, runematic, I'm scared to call you right, but it seems everything new SP is EXACTLY similar to rp2813 old Amana's. (Cringes) |

I bought a set of these in 1998. Mine were MOL or a notch above. The washer had to have the tub seal replaced twice during its first year, and during the second service visit they noticed that the water pump was cracked. After about two years the tub began to index slightly (1/4" at a time), accompanied by a soft knocking sound each time the agitator changed direction. Such good quality. The dryer never needed a repair, but it had some issues. It was prone to melting grill marks from the heating element cover into certain synthetic items, like track pants. The inside of the door was plastic and, in addition to attracting much lint and pet hair, occasionally tried to zap me if I stood to close to it while unloading the dryer. Not very nice. Oh, and when a cycle was completed, depending on which heat setting was selected and which cycle was used, the timer knob would continue to tick away and advance clear through the following cycle. It was strange, but mostly annoying. The pair and me parted company after three cold and distant years. My parents bought a set in either 1999 or 2000, whichever year Amana changed the washer timer from clicking to turning smoothly (and it could be turned clockwise and counter-clockwise). They bought near TOL models; theirs have rotary controls and I think the TOL models at the time had electronic controls. The set is in a part-time home where my parents spend about one-third of their time, so it gets used somewhat less than average machines. After at least seven years, though, neither machine has had a problem. My mom would like to replace the set with front loaders, so she checks under the washer for leaks from time to time. Hoping. |

My Amana dryer went through four lint screen assemblies in 9 years. Not just the screen, the whole housing, but the screens themselves fell apart as well and started to allow the ductwork to clog. When I unloaded the dryer along with the washer, the lint screen assembly that was in it was beginning to warp and crack. Really a horribly designed machine and if you've got enough problems in your life, you don't need to add this one Sploder.
