Thanks to TrainGuy I have a rear drum seal. It is not the original but he says it will work. Now I need to know the best way to install it. Maybe Jimmy (FilterFlo) will come to the rescue. My dryer is a 1964 Frigidaire DCIF-64 no vent. The old fiberglass seal was glued onto the lip of the back panel. Some of the old seal still remains.I have some hi temp adhesive.

Do I have to remove the drum to put the new seal on? I have the drum pushed forward and you can see the full lip on the top of the dryer. I figured I could lean the dryer forward I would be able to get to the bottom of the drum. That is my problem. How do you get to the bottom of the back panel? Or would it be best to remove the drum and glue on the seal. That is my next question, which is the best way to remove the drum.

Also I have located the upper and lower seals for the front port. Should I replace those too? Filter Flo answered Saltysam's question about the front port glides. I have a new set of glides but mine look good. They still have the plastic ribs or grooves. The back of the upper seal is starting to bend or curl to the front of the dryer but I guess some hi temp adhesive will fix that. Should I replace the upper and lower seals? Is there a way to take the port assembly out?

Rich

Do I have to remove the drum

Hey mustangman, I don't know if your 64 is the same as my 67 but i had to take the drum out to get the rear seal installed. I am assuming yours would need to come out too.....It will make it much easier to install the new seal. Mine did not glue in mine had a metal strap that went around then entire drum and held the seal in place. (The seal on mine is a very heavy felt material) to get my drum out you will need to take the front port out (there should be screws under the rubber door seal) and also take the back off the machine, you should be able to see the drum shaft sticking out the back.....there is a clip that holds the shaft in place along with the shaft bushing. On mine i had to remove the 4 screws from inside the drum that holds the shaft onto the drum in order to get it out of the machine. (mine wouldn't move forward enough for the shaft to clear the housing that supports the shaft and bushing) While you got it apart i might be good to go ahead and replace the upper and lower seals. that way you'll know they will be good for a long time........Hope this helps........Sam
