After searching many months, I finally found the (almost) same model Ge washer we bought new in spring 1973! The metal tag on the side reads WWA8430 CHLWH I believe, (hard to read)
It turned up at an estate sale with a "NFS" sticker on it, alongside a newer Hotpoint dryer. Knowing the house was for sale, I was sure it would end up in the trash when the new owners remodeled the house.
Making sure this was NOT going to happen, I offered my 2003 GE front loader (with slightly dry tub bearing!)for trade, they accepted in hope that it would help with the sale of the house!
I told them it's a bit on the noisey side, but works fine. They said they didn't care, deal done..
I looked at a few date codes on parts, and found no newer than Dec '71 So I guess it's a '72 model.

Oh, that's a nice washer - it should shine up like a new penny!

We had a '72 GE but it was next to the BOL - standard capacity, 3 temps and 3 water levels. Same agitator, wire clothes guard but no bleach dispenser. I spent many an hour watching that machine!

Congrats on the great find!

Fantastic! And it has a lighted console, to boot. Congratulations; Can you post another photo of the cycle dial and the controls?

Beautiful machine. Of course the lighted controls make it that much more special.

Happy washing!

So finally GE figures out that the light should shine down on the control panel and not in the user's eyes. Beautiful machine, but yet another GE oddball. What's the model #?

Beautiful machine! Congratulations on your acquisition negotiations and ability to do all of that appliance switching. My 1968 TOL Versatronic dryer has this eyebrow light arrangement over the control panel. The mid 60s when GE first went to the slanted contol panel saw some horrible panel light placement, but things did improve.
Have great fun with your latest joy. Tom

Here is a before control panel pic. I have since cleaned up the machine and gotten all the crud off the lid areas.

That is a great machine Dwight! I love all the round dial GE's and the script on the upper left side is so fun.

I'm assuming the little knob to the right of the water level knob is 2nd rinse option.

What a wonderful machine. I like all the various styles of panel lights. This must be about the last with that style of timer dial. I actually like this style slightly better than what they used after. The font on this one pictured here was very "modern looking" I thought for the time.

Thanks everyone! I really thought this model no longer existed around here anymore, the last one I saw was in the late 80's..
Just running the old GE today brought back memories of the one we had in Tucson back in '73. The pair were in a utility room just off the garage. I also had a workbench in there for my tube radio projects. While doing my laundry chores, I would fix the old radios I purchased at the previous weekend's flea markets.
The sounds of the washer running, (as well as the dryer) were a favorite then as well as now.
The next quest of mine, is to try and find the GE matching dryer in White, and with the "Versatronic" sensor, as I plan on keeping these in service.

That super filter-flo pan reminds me: we had the TOL of that model year (first year with the "blond" behind the toggleswitches) and it had, as well as a timed bleach and timed fabric softener dispensers in the lid well, a plastic powdered detergent dispenser that sat on the filter pan and would "drop" like the mouse trap in that old game, after the spin and fall with the detergent, from the catch of the tub brake, into that well. Does anyone out there have one? Wish I'd kept it(as well as the machines) for posterity.

~(first year with the "blond" behind the toggleswitches).
I don't recall any blondes in my past.

Beautiful machines!

I think this could pass for the mate to your washer!

Wow Lawrence! That dryer had to be hard to find, it looks like an early 70's one as well.

It turned up here in Atlanta on Craigslist, and was advertised to be a '72. I think that's correct. In '73 GE changed the graphics on the timer - simpler with orange and yellow bands on a black background.
