Mine would have to be Fisher & Paykel and any clones of it(Kenmore Oasis, Whirlpool Cabrio, Maytag Bravos.) Please share information on yours.

I have two favorites. I got a brand new Maytag/Whirltag and also a used front load GE "Fridgemore". They both perform great.

GE Harmony

Just bought this set three months ago. DW loves the larger capacity and how well it cleans. Me, I think the washer's fun to watch, and the flying T-shirt icons are the ultimate in laundro-techno geekery!

Re; My favorite modern Washer & Dryer:

Are the Maytag Epic Set in Black, Frigidaire Gallery Set in White and the new LG Set in Titanium, with the Adaptable Control Panels, for when you Stack them, you can place the Dryer Controls at the bottom front of the Dryer "Mid-Range" so they are just above the Washers Controls. If they are installed Side-By-Side, then you just change the Dryer Controls back to the top area of the front of the Dryer.

Peace and Great Laundry times, Steve

Kitchenaid and/or Whirlpool Audio Shot

Would like to collect a decent audio demo of either or both modern classic top loader machines, as I would like to enjoy their particular sounds in agitation, spinning, etc.--Laundry Shark

Yes, those Crosleys are in fact Neptunes, based, it would seem, on the Neptune 5500b mechanics/electronics. I didn't know that Crosley was a name that Whirlpool/Maytag owned. I had heard that the solid door Neptune line would be rebadged as Amanas, though.

Once you replace the motor, motor controller, main board, and spider, these are good washers :-)

Post# 244868 , Reply# 23   10/27/2007 at 18:33 (6,019 days old) by funguy10 ()

Yep, the Neptunes were rebadged under the Amana brand-name. They are called the Amana "Enlighten".

Well, mine would be...

1st place: Miele. You just can't beat them! A solid, classy machine with top class reliability as standard. My model is just great!

2nd place: Gorenje. They do some really stylish machines and I especially love the touch-screen models, namely the 2000RPM spin washing machine. I like the Pininfarina designed model too!

3rd place: Asko. It's a fabulous piece of Swedish design and they always look good, no matter what models they are. Old or new, this design is just ageless without feeling too dated.

4th: Siemens. They always know how to do classy machines.

5th: Hotpoint. Good looking models in many nice colours.

6th: Zanussi. Nicely designed machines while looking good.

7th: Bosch. Thoughtful design with superb reliability.

8th: Indesit. Bold looks from all it's models.

9th: Electrolux. Innovative with great looks.

10th: Hoover. Fine designs all round.

and that's my rundown of my favorite machine designs!

If looks count...

The Frigidaire Affinity in metallic slate blue; the older Kitchenaid Duet clone in dark metallic gray/platinum (kind of Rolls-Roycey), the Samsung whateveritis in brilliant metallic dark red, Whirlpool Cabrio HE in metallic gray (I think) and clear, untinted window lid. And, even though the pricing is repulsive, the stainless steel flat front trophy laundry room Kitchenaids with Duet HT guts.

Let's face it folks, in terms of washer styling, we've entered into another Golden Age, similar to that of the late 50's/early 60's. Unfortunately all the money is going into HE washers, and then mostly front loaders, but still - they've stopped being boring white (or bisque or black) commodities and have regained some measure of glamour.

Style thumbs down to (and this is only my opinion): the square door Frigidaire Affinity washers, the toilet seat Bosch Nexxt, those weird overly rounded last gasp solid door Maytag Neptunes, F&P's with those slanted plastic full width lids (who said you're not supposed to use the washer top for storage???), and the Kenmore HE/HT5's in that blaring orange "Sedona". Sorry if I dinged one you own or one of your favorites... just my personal opinion.

*Carl looks up whilst reading a Miele manual…* ;)

Miele – first. :) Anything else is a compromise. LOL! ;)
Anything Electrolux Group, but especially a Zanussi Jetsystem – second. :) The appliance of science. LOL ;)

If Dyson machines were still made – and I know they’re not perfect, but then no machines are anyway :) – they would be joint second or simply third. :)

Carl :)
