OK, it's official now and no better day to find it but on my birthday! I scored my long lost dream machine, the avocado green 3-speed GE from 1969 and it's matching high speed electric dryer! I couldn't be happier!!! Here are a few photos. More to come soon!

To Patrick (pdub). Patrick was such a great guy for getting these for me. I'm still in Virginia and I called Patrick practically frantic asking him if he could get these for me and he did. What a guy!!!

Thanks Patrick so much!

Great GEs

I'm in Manassas, and I know how hard it can be to find good machines in the DC area. There are so many people who "update" their appliances every 5 yers, the used places are full of new junk, and the great stuff is too old to be marketable.

Congrats, and enjoy,
Dave

Pete's right, for perspective, we need both shots. You have the machine, why not? ;-)

Congrats on the new machines, Jon! And a shout out to pdub too, a little help from the "sympathetic few" that will pick up wayward appliances for a friend -- isn't this a great group?

Yup, Patrick was so cool for doing this! What a friend! He gave me a call last night to update me on them. He got them home just fine and did a little testing. Hopefully in a the next week or two we can get out there to move them to our house and maybe clean them up a bit. He's going to send more pics today or tomorrow too.

Thanks for the support guys!

I'm at the Apple store waiting to get a new battery; my laptop crashed last night. So while
I'm waiting for my appointment at the "Genius Bar" I though I'd check in when a floor person comes over and says, "HI How ya goin" Fine, I say.

He then says "Watch your content.

I say Oh it's okay it's Automatic Washers

He says No I saw what was up there. We can't have that,

That's little Jon at his grammy's washer. It's not kiddieporn. He walked away. I'm laughing. Ah Aworg, the bane of the universe

Guess I may have the battery that could have caught fire before the screen simply went to black and the computer died.

When I get to the Moron Bar, I can't wait to say "Better be more concerned about starting your customers on fire than seeing a club member's totally innocent baby picture. Sheeesh.

Jon, GE's are amazing and I Have extra mini-baskets. What size?

haha...That is too funny. I guess porn is in the eyes of the beholder huh? Maybe to some it's porn, but to the average person I definetly think it's just a cute picture. Hey, it helped make a dream come true so the picture will get framed and put on the wall right behind this washer. I'm very sentimental and it's easy to see why with that picture.

It would be awesome if you had a mini-basket!!! It's a V-16 with the turquoise straight 3-vane agitator. You wouldn't happen to have fabric softener dispensers too would you??? I will attach a couple of pictures that Matthew has posted on here (GEextrarinse).

Does anyone know where to possibly find a "Jet-Swirl" fabric softener dispenser for one of these washers? I know I had seen them on Ebay before, but no such luck now.

Thanks!

I'll work on that for sure! Got to see if it is able to complete a cycle first. Patrick said the washer throws the breaker at a certain point on the timer dial. Hopefully I can figure out what's causing that and get it to function correctly. I'll keep you posted!

Make sure your breaker can handle 20 amps. Some 15 amp breakers will trip with washing machines.

Jon the best way is to take off both wires from the switch, strip off the ends and join them together with a wire nut. This way you retain that wonderful orginal ***click*** when you open and close the lid without having the nasty effect of the ***click***.

Robert,

jons1077's profile picture
I kind of figured that's what I would have to do and that's an easy fix. Does your Filter-Flo have a lid switch? I don't recall yours "clicking" when the lid was opened and closed. I probably wasn't paying attention either. You have so many distractions in that basement! :-)

No the '58 does not, I'm pretty sure GE didn't start with a lid switch until at least '60, if not '61.
