Thanks for your advise on a new set this past week. I was very torn between the new Fridgidaire or Kenmore 3.5's and a Speed Queen set. I bit the bullet and ordered the Speed Queen ATS90AWN washer and AES68AWF dryer yesterday and should have them by Saturday. My LG set went back and I was granted a full refund from the seller on Ebay.

Interesting door configuration on that washer; I was all set to place an order for the Amana front-loader that was supposed to be released back in '96 or so. Unfortunately, I received a letter from Amana stating they had pulled the machine and it wouldn't be available. I went with the Frigidaire.

Let us know what you think of your new set! It's nice to see the Speed Queen name back in the residential market.

Speed Queen

We had looked online at the SQ's when we had to get new washer but no dealers close by. Would have liked the stainless outer tub but we like the Sear Kenmore 3.5 (fridgmore) we got. Cleans great and with high speed spin towels take about 45 minutes to dry. We are finding 1/4 the lint in dryer filter compared to our Amana TL we had. Keeep us informed on how it preforms.

Oh How exciting!

Please post plenty of pictures of this great looking machine.

I got a good look at the new SQ machines at the Pittsburgh home show today. VERY NICE ! Not to understate the obvious commercial quality ( a SS outer tub !) and what I consider a nice (not overly complicated) control panel, but the best feature of all... the reto looking, brushed aluminum, classic Speed Queen "Q" right there on the upper-left corner of the front panel. Pretty Cool !

BTW...

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere here before. I'm new to the club and havn't read all the old threads. Could someone explain the SQ/Alliance - Amana/Maytag relationship, or lack of. I'm familiar with Maytag/Amana. I'm a Maytag authorized servicer. The Maytag/Amana is produced in Searcy Arkansas. It's almost the exact same machine.(Top load) Amana switched to a plastic outer tub and when Maytag took over in 2001 they changed to their "dual-drive" transmission. I see no difference in the dryer at all. I'm assuming SQ was spun off before Maytag came into the picture. Is it produced in a different plant? These days you could talk to 3 different people at Maytag and get 7 different answeres.
THANKS, ED

Speed Queen

Raytheon sold Speed Queen seperately to Alliance Laundry Systems before Maytag came into the picture. They're still built in their traditional plant in Ripon WI.

Yes, good to see higher-grade machines with straightforward rotary controls instead of all those confusing (to me) buttons for programming the sequences on a microprocessor.

I'd be interested in more details once you have the units in hand.
