Hey guys,
I thought this could be a kool idea for a thread, how about everybody post a pic of your machine, in action! and maybe write a piece about the load and your particular habbits? I.e detergent, any particular wash features!!? Like i said could be a cool thread or could just flop! lol just an idea:D

I'll start things off.

Heres a picture of my latest machine washing towels, i always wash towels on 60degree cotton cycle, with maximum number of rinses and the highest spin. I alternate using liquid and powder detergent!

Also, I would like to ask, how fussy are you at loading? I would like some of your input on what sort of colours you allow to wash together, for example my darks loads, i was blacks, browns, dark blues & greens. Are many of you particular about your load or you just throw it in?!

I hope this thread can go somewhere:D

Darren

Hiya :)

I'll second you this should be a good thread!!! :) I tend to wash coloured towels on a Colourfast Cottons 60*c wash sometimes with the Time Saver Option and with powder detergent :) With the lighter coloured towels, I try to give them a boilwash every now and them to keep them bright :)

However for towels, I think I'll start using the Sensitive Care option on the Hoover! I used it the other day on some coloured washing and it seems to work a treat!! Saturates the load as usual, then once it is satisfied the load is fully soaked, it then tops the water level up do it spreads across the door rubber! Then, a further 5 very high level rinses ( all with intermittent spins) rinse the load very well! A bit excessive for normal washing i.e T-shirts and things, but will be very beneficial when it comes to washing towels I'd imagine :)

Richard

Wow, nice pictures!

Now here I with mine:
here you can admire the beauty of my dirty clothes (half of them still smelling good from the gym).

That's my averange load and yes, I'm picky about colours and materials. Everything is very dark and everything is cotton. The flash makes appear the t-shirt lighter than they really are.

Post# 249318 , Reply# 5   11/20/2007 at 16:41 (5,995 days old) by dj-gabriele ()

Here is the loaded washing machine. There won't be any running pictures because there is a double glass and the outer one is dark, you can barely see what's inside.

I'm using a 30°C cotton wash (5 rinses each with spin) with Dixan Tabs (Italian Persil) and OminoBianco igenizzante (Hygenizing powder) plus Vernel classic scent softner.

The machine isn't always that dirty but my flatmate washed a carpet and din't care to dust off the machine so everything is disgusting. Hopefully I use the other (much cleaner) bathroom.

Oh Darren, I love that Hotpoint Ultima!!! It just bothers me that the Ariston name is going to be phased out in favour of it!!

Also your Hoover looks great Richard, it's a nice machine, it looked nice in the shop when I saw it!

Awesome! What a great start! Thanks for contributing guys!

Funguy, i will hopefully take more pictures today as its my laundry day and i'm off work!

Djgabrielle, im really envious of your philco! It reminds me alot of my grandmothers old bendix! I loved that machine!

Hers looked like this one but it had a 2nd row of 3 buttons underneath! & was 1000rpm! Man i loved that machine!

The Philco is a fine machine, washes well and rinses better, the only pain is the spinning, only 600 rpm!!!
If you like we can swap ;) I get the Ultima and you the Philco LOL
It came with the flat, it was the only appliance not being brand new, I guess mine is from 1993, isn't it?

dj-gabriele-Its a nice looking machine! so even with flash on a camara we couldn't see an action shot? :D I'll keep the hotpoint:p

Are the rinses really high? Ahhh yes the low spin, our edesa machine in spain spins at 800rpm like most automatics did here in the 80s and the aspes machine we had before was only 600rpm! Its funny the washing comes out warm with the cold water not being particularly cold!

Guys please contribute to this thread! It could be really good!!!!

Thankyoooou

GABRI!

Un bucato meravigliosamente colorato...ma quanti chili porta la tua Philco da rimanere ancora spazio?

It's really a big load in my habits, honestly I can fit such many garments at once...at least there won't be any space left in the drum!

BENE! I'll soon post mine as soon it'll stop raining...this weekend? I hope!!

Great idea!

I just put on my red bedding just a min ago and took a couple of photos. I always am wary of colours and seperate them into darks, lights and whites. I pretty much wash every day becasue Charles' has only got three shirts for his work and I only have two pairs of trousers. The shirts are light blue and the trousers are dark blue. I end up doing lights twice a week, darks three times a week and towels another day and bedding the day i'm not doing anything else. The cat sleeps on the bed so it gets washed alot more than it should! Recently we got new bedding. We got into Nip/Tuck and Christian's bed is red and Charles thought "What a great idea!" so off to tescos we went and got some. When i washed it for the first time i done it on 60 degrees and it dyed the washing machine red :-( So now i stick it on 60* with the eco button and intensive rinse because i always put a bit extra powder in with the reduced temperature. Heres the machine and what i use for everything cept hand washables...

Glad to see you like the same fabric softner lol! The whirlpools okay I guess. The machine was a noisy beast till I sat there one day and leveled it and its pretty smooth and stable. I never much cared for the noise of the motor though, its very whiney! The rinsing is alot better than the Indesit we had in our old flat. The whirlpool saturates the clothes then fills up with a bit more, the baffles are every effective at getting the water around! The indesit never used that much water and if you were washing more than a half load it would sudslock with most loads :-/

Your Ultima looks very handsome in the kitchen!

Yeees i do love that fabric softener! i was going with the intention of buying a big box of ariel, and then i saw the bold, i will get that when this 120wash box runs out lol. next yr sometime lol! That was my next question! It sounds like the rinsing is rather reasonable on tht whirly!

Awh thankyou, it fits in well in our kitchen, we need a new fridge freezer so going to get one to match!

Lavamat78800 Why didn't you spun that load at 1800 rpm... this is a sturdy cotton load i should wash at 95° at spin as fast as possible so it would dry quick and with less electricity... but srry i'm old fashioned about whites!!

So, I always spin at 1400 rpm.

My washing habits...

I sort my laundry into three groups: 1. Whites and colourfast dyed things (towels, bed linen), 2. Other coloureds (most clothing goes here), 3. Things that need special treatments (fleece sweaters, caps, rain coats etc.).

Yesterday I did the whites:

And as cleaning agent I use the same detergent for whites and coloureds, but for whites I add some percarbonate powder...

That Harmony in the movie is running one of the programs that doesn't perform load sensing. It just fills to the maximum level. There are several programs that do this.

Comforter
Blankets

To name a few.

IGNIS!

YES, why don't share with you my latest Whites load in my TLHA Ignis?

The cycle is the 4: 40°C prewash and 60°C main wash, 4 cold rinses with inter spins and final long spins.

WONDERFUL!!! Apart from this:
during the heating phase the electric braker shut down...I don't thinks is because I used liquid detergent as it happend to me once already... really does the powdered detergent solve itself better than the liquid one?!

UNSORTED!?

Neil... shoudn't you sort colors and whites!??!?! Red socks and red underwear I see I hope don't fade out onto whites... they aren't indeed those bright colours to be washed with whites together either if you set 40°C instead of 60°C...
Sorry me for have said that but is't only a personal point of view :-)

Shock Horror !

Like I said only a small load this time, so I did two loads- Whites / colours and very darks. Usually if I have a big load I will do a separate whites wash at 95, but only when that warrants a decent load. In my opinion there is nothing worst than a machine on for 3 hours with just a few things in it. Also with the temp being just 40 and having washed these a number of times, I see no harm. The pic was taken , after the wash.

It was playtime today so I got the Velo agitator washer out. Filled it with a pair of jeans, a pair of sweatpants and socks. Here it's filling from the shower. Water is 40*C (105*F).

Detergent was Amway SA8. In the last rinse I used the SA8 softener. The detergent is OK, I don't like the softener. Too thick (it clogs up all the dispensers on the automatic machines and I don't like the smell either).

A Load of towels (My favourite thing to wash)

If your wondering why its a bit cluttered and the machines are oddly positioned and the shiny foil and christmas tinsel, Its because at christmas in the garage my partner creates a big walk around santas grotto and I have to move the machines around and large red curtains hide them away. The exit from the grotto is next to the speed queen.

Hey oke something really offtopic but I want to ask something about your dryer.
What's the capacity? How large was your load of towels? How long took it to get them dry? Was it spun at the famous Speed Queen 700 rpm? Sorry for all these questions but I'm just curious so why not :D

Post# 251965 , Reply# 124   12/4/2007 at 10:22 (5,981 days old) by sparkymarky1973 ()

Hi

I have only had the dryer a few weeks so still getting used to it. Its a 9kg Condenser sensor dryer. The towels are 4 very large bath sheets. (Can't tell you the weight..sorry). Also im unable to give you the drying time because its a sensor dryer and I havn't timed anything yet. I have the setting set to "extra dry" which basically means dry. "Cupboard Dry" I find just isn't dry enough for me as there is still moisture left in the clothes. On Extra dry things feel a bit damp when they come out but once you leave them to sit and cool down they are dry ready to put away.I always use half / low heat which will of course extend the drying time but I personally don't like using full heat for anything.
I also couldn't tell you if the spin speed on the speed queen is 700rpm. I don't actually know the spin speed so if 700rpm is standard then its good to know.

Sorry I havn't been able to answer your questions very well.

Mark

Questions

Aamasther,

A: Does Miele have their own brand of washing powder in the USA? I have never seen those cartons here in the Netherlands.

B: The program selector of your washer seems confusing. You say that "Temp boost" is selected, but it could just as well be "Delicates". I can't see the difference between the two positions. Is it a picture artifact?

mielabor,
A. Miele just released their own branded detergent line for the US market a few months ago. It's made by German commercial detergent manufacturer, Kruessler. They perform well, I still like the Henkel products better.
B. Yes, 'Temp Boost" is selected on the Bosch 6400. I think it is a picture artifact.

Alex, I'm always wondered how could you get a dryer living in the sunniest zone of Italy!!!

Maybe cause you wanted to go on looking clothes tubling?! I figure out it could be like so, because you have a rare windowed lid dryer... only Whirlpool and Bosch have them here!

That looks more like a microwave oven than a dryer. Interesting way to dry clothes! I can't recall any other square-windowed front loaders, aside from some Westinghouse slant-fronts, some American combos, and early Hamilton made dryers.

I like it!

wow

That Hotpoint Ultima is a very sharp looking machine. I think it's my favorite! The Hoover also looks nice... That Calypso reminds me of when I worked at Sears... they had one as a floor model when they first came out. Of course I had my eyes on the Maytag Neptune with touch screen, I just didn't like that the door wasn't transparent.

Hmph...

Poking through this thread, I was quite shocked to see the detergent dosages some of the members have, yet rinses (and even washes) that are devoid of Suds! You Euro folks seem to have a nice bout of luck, or perhaps dirtier clothes and much harder water than I

(*Yes, having mechanically softened water doesn't help my situation. Still though...*)

But nice machines, and very nice loads, I must say.

I might have to attach some shots of what I'm washing. Got some laundry to do tomorrow, in actual fact. Might be time to "diddle" with the Miele and get some Euro-waterlevels happening.

Fingers crossed Minimum Iron gets some more spinning action in-between rinses too! LOVE the high-water rinses, but dislike (a lot) the singular pulse-spin between the Wash/Rinse and Rinses.

Speaking for myself I actually use less than the recommended amount of powder than it says on the box. I don't use concentrate powders or liquids so maybe it looks more than it is plus the average size washing machine now is around 7-9 kg so one would have to use more powder.

*drool* a HARMONY!

Please Malcolm (mrb627),

if you could just add a few more pics or even one or two videos (is that too much to ask for?).

I LOVE this machine, have loved it from the day it came out to the market.
Always wanted to have one (if I only knew whether it has an internal inverter board to feed the motor its own voltages and currents and a 12 volts (or similar) inner mains adapter to feed the electronics.) -THEN it would be easy to convert it to 230 V 50 Hz Euro juice.

Nevertheless, could you please give me some (non-transatlantic freight costs = read virtual) stainless steel whirling impeller fun, can you? ;-)
Centrifusion! Infusor action! (GE lingo) I MUST have one before I die.
Charcoal body and shiny interior, now can it be any better?
Please!

*so curious here*

Joe

My Kenmore

I have used SA8 liquid laundry soap for the past 14 years. I never use a full cap, only up to the first line. I also do not use bounce or dryer balls. I did a very small load of darks, and am impressed with the amount of water this machine uses. Prior to this set, I had a Samsung with Diamond drum, and I do miss that feature as it seemed more gentle on my clothes. Looking to purchase a second machine, which will have diamond type of drum for sure.

D Pets Load

electron1100's profile picture
Today it was the pets (cats and guinea pigs) wash, this consisted of 3 bath towels, two large hand towels, 4 tea towels, a sweatshirt and two polo tops, these are items that the cats sleep on or are used for the guinea pigs, the guinea pigs beds are washed by hand with liquid soap.

D on my Hoover 1100 is a 60o degree wash and it reaches this (60.9) to be exact it is an absorbant and heavy load when wet, but the hoover handles it with ease with plenty of room for "drop and flop" as Mike puts it :-)

First pic is the dry load

I like the looks of that hotpoint, very nice! and the fact you can hang out clothes already! we got another dump of snow again *smiling thru clenched teeth* yesterday!

I haven't had my clothes line up in about 2 years as we did a back yard changeup. I still miss it, but was not able to use it until about May when all the snow was gone and ground was dry.

I am impressed with your drying area aswell...........my line is not long enough at times........

I remember a flat I had some years ago had a drying area with 4 great big rotary lines, it was really good

I haven't a proper picture but Mat in Cardiff has a really high washing line that is probably 20ft and is excellent for getting the washing up into the winds

Is that high level water showing in your miele on a wash or rinse or both

The ground floor flats have their own little garden that are supposed to rotary airers in but the old lady downstairs doesn't have one so she uses the lines which are meant for the 1st, 2nd ( me ) and 3rd floor flats. Thankfully the folks on one and three don't use the lines.

Question about your picture post in reply 197.

The selector dial is set to the number 3 so I guess that is for coloured 40C.
What is the dial to the right, the one with the numbers 30 top 90 used for?
The selector dial is already at 40C so what does this dial do?

Thanks

Jerrod,
The list of temperatures on the detergent drawer are the maximum temperatures for that particular cycle, you still need to select a temperature using the temperature dial next to the programme dial.

Idnlad87 is that a Hotpoint WMUD10637P I see?
Is it any good - I hear there Titanium drum machines have slightly different programming, annoying interim spins with tumbles between each burst, but fast tumbles during the draining phases? Can I ask does Bed+Bath on the machine do fast or slow rinse tumbles, or mixture of both, and does it do the fast drain tumbles?
Was thinking might upgrade to that or the WMFG1053 but just interested to know really how the cycles are, probably not much different to mine, but you expereince would be great.

Here's my Almost Nightly Load

My Chef whites - usually wash them every night, though occasionally save them up to wash two lots together, and on early shifts tend to bung them in with the other whites laundry.

I always wash Whites on Prog 2 in my Hotpoint Experience, although its a rather long wash, its extremely good at washing out the stains, and keeping whites white, without the need for a Boilwash, thanks to intensive wash Tumbles, a stepped heating pattern with different length and speed tumbles, and at least 1hr temp hold with the sustained intensive rhythm.

Prog - 2 [Whites 60] (Part of Hotpoint's HD Colour Care Cycles range, available on most machines)
Temp - 60/Max60
Spin - 1200/Max1400
Size - Aprox 2KG/Max4KG
Load - Chef Jacket, Apron, Trousers, Hat
Oven Cloth
3xTea Towels (1 is works, the other two are our Households ones!)
Dishcloth (One of our Households ones, we're not allowed dishcloths at work!)
Duration - 2hr40 (Aprox)

First Pic - the Load in the Drum

Persil Advance professional powder. (gives great cleaning even with only small amounts used, it must have lasted at least 50 cycles by now, and still about half left!!)

Phase 1 - Sensing
Slow tumbles for 5 minutes, the rhythm then continues as it heats to 20C, before switching off the ehater and continuing until at least 10minutes has passed.

Should say Heater above!

Pic 4
Phase 2 - sensed and now into Fast Tumbles - cottons ones to be precise, heating now to 30C

Post# 753530 , Reply# 225   4/28/2014 at 19:28 (3,644 days old) by glenfieldmathk1 (Glenfield-Leicester-UK)

Phase 3 - Rolling Rhythm
As soon as 30C is reached, the machine advances to phase 3. (The fast wash Rhyhthms, where the clothes roll over each other/scrub each other). Heating to 50, though spends atleast 10 minutes here, so if the machine reaches 50 quicker (smaller loads) it switches off the heater but continues with the rhythm. If however its not at 50C by 10minutes is up, the machine starts doing longer Pauses to boost the temp.

Post# 753531 , Reply# 226   4/28/2014 at 19:30 (3,644 days old) by glenfieldmathk1 (Glenfield-Leicester-UK)
Pic 6

Phase 4 now, we're back to cottons, only this time faster speed still (around 55rpm, as opposed to normal 50rpm, so the load really does get lifted many times to the side of the drum).
Heating now to 60C

Post# 753535 , Reply# 227   4/28/2014 at 19:38 (3,644 days old) by glenfieldmathk1 (Glenfield-Leicester-UK)
Pic 7

Phase 5, the final part of the wash! (The best part) 30/2 tumbles at 55rpm with classic 95 series launches!!
Its now temp holding for at least 1hr too. The heater switches on and off many times to maintain 60C. The glass can get quite hot by the end of the cycle.
The smell in the room, reminds me of the old WM31 when it was Boilwashing!

I've included a video this time - showing phase 5 (as well as a pic!) - The vid shows the phase 5 rhythm and the heater coming back on [about half way through](not sure if can be heard though) listen for a silent click!

Notice how the clothes occasionally nearly spin, didn't get that on the previous range of WT/WF's etc!!

After the temp hold ends, the rhythm continues a while longer, depending on load size, before completing a Cooldown, and cottons rinses, and spins.

Hope you enjoyed my wash load in Pics, maybe more soon! :)

It seems, these days, like companies claim their programmes are 'anti stain' or 'super eco' to cover up the fact that they take such a ridiculously long time. 2.5 hrs or longer for a 4kg load is silly, no need for it.

glenfieldmathk1. This washing machine is fantastic I had a older ultima before this one and thought that was great, but when I used this one it got clothes even cleaner on a cold cycle, bed and bath uses a mixture of tumbles it seems to tumble differently on every wash load, not sure if this is due to the weight, I tend to use bed and bath more than other cycles, where before I used to wash towels and bedding on 90'c I can get away with doing 40'c plus steam hygiene and getting whites whiter than before. Can't really comment on the draining and spinning as it foes seem to be different on every cycle I do

Thought I'd add to this thread..

I have been quiet on here lately, every things a bit up in the air.
Anyway, this is our lovely Miele doing a daily load.

Photo 1: The load, is a mix of my work uniform and clothes, some stuff of my dads, and mums stuff from keep fit. Its a mixed bag of cottons and synthetics

Photo 2: Our laundry arsenal. Shout pre-treater which smells like sun lotion, Astonish oxi powder, Ariel bio powder with Actilift and Waitrose honeysuckle & buttercup softener.
We mainly use the pre-treater for whites, undies and towels.

Photo 3: Program set, these are not too soiled so I set it on a Cottons 40, Short with Water-plus, with full 1300 spin. We mainly use this on full for more heavily soiled stuff and we use the full Cottons 60 for towels. We barely use any other program.

Photo 4: Close up of wash. The load is rather small, nowhere near the 7kg capacity so the water level is easy to see, suds and all. I like the tumbles on the machine, everything is well distributed even when its full. The machine has had 3 fills. Theres usually 4 or 5 when we do towels.

Photo 5: The load hang out to dry as the weather here in Yorkshire has been glorious. These won't take long to dry, the 1300 spin sees to that.
We really love the machine, it leaves everything clean, smelling fresh and feeling soft, something no other machine we have ever used has done.

Just a couple loads here: Machines are a 2009 Kenmore He5t steam washer (last of the Whirlpool built) and a 2005(?) LG - WM 1832 (rear controls). It was a little too dark to get a good photo w/o the flash, but yes these are washing (OK, rinsing).

This is 2 of 5 connected downstairs in my garage "laundry area". The others (at the moment) are a 1971 Maytag 806 (you can see it just to the right) and a pair of Kenmore Elite Catalyst (TL) washers from around 2000. I will swap out 2 or 3 of them with other machines every month or two.

Kevin

Darks on cottons 40 with water plus
60ml of Ariel Bio, 1/2 cap of Comfort Pure. I know I'm stingey but I hate clothes that just stink of fabric softener and excessive suds drive me mad.

They're heading for the spinner after the main wash and then out on the line. Watch this space.

@AquaCycle

These are very nice machines!

I had the opportunity to use the Norwegian version over Christmas while with family. Washed really nicely and quickly, and is ridden very hard (usually one load a day of heavily soiled farm clothes). From what I could tell - it delivers great results.

Is the 60mL of Ariel-Bio the recommended dosage, or is it "adulterated" to some extent to reduce sudsy?

By the way - so long as you have a slight sudsing present, then you know you have dosed correctly for the load. From what I understand, as suds become more evident at higher dosages, that means you are beginning to overdose your selected product - so I guess you're doing well!

It's a fab machine! It's 5 years old now and not missed a beat *touch wood*. Perfect results everytime. The dryer is only a few weeks old.

That detergent dosage is what's recommended for soft water areas, although I know some of our friends on here prefer a sudsy wash, I can't be doing with it. It makes rinsing more difficult. I've never had an issue using that amount, it still washes flawlessly.

There is a very slightly bit of sudsing present in the wash, but it's only noticeable when the water id pouring down the door.

There was a slight change of plan. It started belting down with rain here, so I made 1 drying load out of the darks and coloured loads. All the trousers, jeans, t-shirts and jumpers are now on the clothes horse and the cotton shirts, underwear and socks are in the dryer
