OMG!! I stopped at an estate sale this morning, it had not been advertised well, only a sign in the yard. I think it came up rather quickly as items were not marked. The poor guy was running it alone as his housemate was out of town. This is just a sampling of what I found. Gotta run, the semi will be here shortly with my first load!

Greg...that is just too funny! I am sure Robert is going to get you for that when he gets back from Florida.

If you ever make it down this way, be sure to let me know.

Even with that huge garage you have, Don, you can't possibly have room to keep all this so I'll be good enough to help you out. Sunday is usually half-price day, hopefully that early GE washer is still there for $4. I'll be there by morning!

That is so funny! Thought I saw that room before!

Reminds me of an old thread where a member wanted a machine another member had and joked he was going to make a "sweep" of the place (something about Glassbake (sp?) mugs). It was all light hearted and in the spirt of fun, but hilarous to read none the less.

However!!!! Greg should you decide to go in, I've got dibs on the vintage Donwy FS. In fact let me know when you are planning for this to go down. I know some peeps from "da hood", and perhaps they can help! *LOL*

Don, you're so thoughtful!! And what a find!! Must have been an elderly couple in their 90s when they finally passed away, both of them. Looks like she musta took in laundry too to help her husband earn income. I wonder if she was a feisty ol' hag or a sweet, nice ol' lady. Musta been a hag, looks like she never let anyone near her washers & dryers. They're too perfect. I hope the semi is large enouigh to haul all this trash away.

I've arrived at Don's and we're getting ready to get another load out of there now - it's a bit tough, all those stairs...but we'll manage. I think Bob spoke up for the 58 set and the 47 Frigidaire has been claimed ;-) but all the rest of these have to go - the owner is a very nice guy but says they have to be out today! Check out the picture and let us know or they'll be out for the scrap pick-up tonight. The owner is keeping a newer GE Harmony set, he said it was the only one that did a decent job of washing/drying...

(sorry, all the signs and advertising pieces have snapped up and are hanging in Don's living room - they look FAB!)

Endora's incantation

Let's see now, I believe Endora's incantation will go something like this...

She raises her arms high in the air... incantation chimes now begin.

'Blow ye winds...and thunder crack...'

Gusts of wind start along with thunder and lightening.

'The time has come to get you back'

'For those who have punked me on this site'

'May your collections of machines disappear tonight!'

She waves her arms again and everyone's collections disappear from their homes.

Hey, you guys did a great job clearing out that messy basement--you even pulled up the floor tiles. I'll bet the owner loves the clean, smooth look of concrete.

I understand it's hard to get parts for some of those old Frigidaires that don't work. What're you going to do with them? Chuck 'em? I think the price of scrap metal is on the rise again, so it might be worth your while.

Isn't it amazing what you can find when you go to estate sales? I also like getting a little intimate peek into the life of a total stranger. For instance, the former owner must be a terrible slob--look at that piece of dust on the floor. And talk about disorganized--those detergents should have been in alphabetical order. I also see that he installed one of the machines is .27 degrees out of plumb. Loser.

something ?

Is there anything left at all from this fabulous sale ? I think I heard there was a fabulous collection of coffee pots upstairs....

Even one that lights up! I am sure it is no good at brewing coffee anymore.

I would love to dismantle it, disconnect the heating device, reaasemble it and put colored water in it.

What a fabulous night light for the kitchen - Maybe I could even convert it somehow into an awesome lava lamp!!

Now, now, calm down Darrel. It's not as if we're not trying to replace the collection with some appliances of equal or lesser value.

For example, I propose the following unit to replace all those ancient washers with clashing colors. Sure, this one is a bit of a project, but think of the hours of fun Robert will have tuning it up!

Anyone going to videotape his reaction?

Hey guys, I have to admit in all the years I've been a member of this site, this absolutely has to be the best prank I have seen yet. Does his partner have a video camera that he can use to capture the glorious 'Kodak moment' when he gets back home? Now that's some video I think we all would like to see!!! LMAO!!!

Oh thank god those stupid machines are gone. To be honest all the work its been taking to keep them running smoothly (with the exception of the Unimatics of course, but that goes without saying) was getting a bit annoying, it will be so nice to get rid of them all. Bye Bye washers, don't let the door hit you in the ass. Even the modern machine bye bye, I'm just sick and tired of doing laundry anyway. So for now on I will be sending the wash out to be done, now that's what I call automatic! YAY. Don't forget the dishwashers too, delicious power bars and bananas don't make dirty dishes anyway!

Now for those of you who have been following Vacuumland you've seen that I just become a member of the VCCC. Now I that I have more space I can concentrate on my new found love of vintage Vacuums! YAY Hoover and Electrolux. Oh and since I'm done with washers you know what that means for aw.org, starting on Thursday when I get home, the website will be closed!...

Hmmmph.

Some People Have All the Estate Sale Carma

WOW Don,

What a Jack Pot!!!

You definitely have "the carma" when it comes to spotting great estate sales. And this one was set up like a show room. How inviting!! Sounds like everyone piped up and all great finds are spoken for. Now that's my luck!! You better keep me in mind for your next great find!! There probably won't be another quite like this one!!

What could possibly be worse than "Closed Permanently?"

But, on the flip side...

Robert~ I can see it now; you can lay a new floor with black tiles, Hoover red tiles, and Electrolux model G turquoise tiles.
((Thank goodness the kind souls at your estate sale took the liberty of gutting your basement))
Of course, you'll also need some carpet down there.
Big flashing neon signs **Hoover Gallery** **Electrolux Gallery.**
Row after row of chrome shelves, holding hundreds of vintage vacuum cleaners.

It'll be fabulous!

It could even look like this someday:

The latest incantation from Endora

Well, now that you-know-who has discovered the little prank and has threatened us with retaliation. I guess it's time to revise Endora's previous incantation. So here it goes.

Once again she raises her arms high in the air... Incantation chimes now begin as she speaks.

"The time has come, revenge is mine"

"It's the final recourse for a plot thought so fine"

"For at the stroke of twelve on the fifth night"

"Automaticwasher.org, be thou gone from my sight!"

She waves her arms again and you all know what happens next.

But it is true, AW.org is closing, no more vintage washers and no more website, besides after six and a half years of running this thing I'm just too old and tired to go on anymore. I'm down at my Dad's in Stuart, Florida using a direct drive Whirlpool as we speak, nice washer I'm quite impressed with it, I can see I'll get used to these real fast. Think that here in Italy I exported first the wash-in all made to Marco's and even if I hadn't never attended to none of them really from the videos they did It hadn't seem to me they were acting...otherwise they were enjoying themselves alot!!

So ,,,, We have to clarify the point

Hey Greg,

A bit funny to see you explaining this is all a practical joke. A little scary that people need to be told this. Reminds me of the Orson Wells "War of the Worlds" radio show fiasko. I bet some AW.org people started going into withdrawal. Hmmmm, wonder if Robert understand the power he wields as master webmaster. Guess it might be a good time to kiss a little ass. However, you did state that he has a great sense of humor. We'll just have to wait and see. Tomorrow could be very telling.

Whatever, I thoroughly enjoyed the evolution of this thread. I guess I'm indirectly thanking you and Don as the instigators. What Fun!!! Very Enjoyable!!!

Above Photo of Joan Crawford

Did she have eyebrows, or did the studio just rent drugged black caterpillars to stay in place on her forehead during photo shoots?
I'd like to inspect HER bathroom, I'll bet she left a very filthy toilet and linoleum, beyond Christina's, probably pubes in the shower drain, and God knows what else.
Clean freeks who inpose it on others are tryin to cover thier own dirt.

Comet would be flung if my mother inspected: in Joan's general and genital direction.

Thanks! It thought there was another one, though.

Toggles asked :What was the name of those shows back in the 70's and 80's when a celebrity was "roasted"?

Could it be the "Laugh-in?
NOooooooooooooooo................"

I've been trying to remember, every since Steve asked the question, what this show was called. I thought that it had something to do with Johnny Carson. I finally googled the right combination, it was called Dean Martin Celebrity Roast.

Just got home from a swell xmas party--actually couldn't wait to come home for fun with long gone Robert, and it's all dead here. What happened? Delayed planes? Storms? Hope our king is well and fine.

Been fun, have stayed away due to nonsense, but most of all, thanks for the fun. Have met new friends and enjoy others, but after all, this is the WWW which I think has exploded into bullshit anyway. My washers won't stop because of the site going down, I had a passion and love long before this.

C YA

YAY, I'm home safe and sound. Now that I'm home and back in the nice crisp cool Minnesota weather I'm thinking clear again and I've decided not to close the site. All the heat and humidity of Florida was making me crazy and I was having nutty thoughts of closing the site. So carry on, oh and what ever you do keep me out of hot weather places please, otherwise lord only knows what might happen!

I hear ya man. I hate the heat. I can't imagine how people can live without winter.
We had a good six inches today and I was so happy heaving the snow over my shoulders. I feel most alive in the winter time. You, too?

So happy you're back. This thread has to be one of the longest made in the shortest of days, and so much fun. You must be proud of how well-behaved your brothers and sisters were in your absence.

Robert,

You should try Switzerland, especially in the higher regions. When I was there in September we didn't have higher temperatures than 17*C/63*F!

As a new guy on this site, and I think how you guys joke around,and..... I think as I seem to pick things out, (at 52 years old)and I think...Robert is a really well educated young man (and attractive too) , and I think he(Robert) took this as a very well Joke. Everyone on this page Loves him, and I don't think anyone would ever , EVER,ever would so anything in their powers to hurt him. I wouldn't. It's all play.I hope my 52 year old brain is not playing tricks on me ,,,, but there again I've been in the restaurant business for 35 years. !!!!!!!! If anyone knows this business takes it toll on you. By the way... Blue Cast Iron Spray Arms... They're the best !!!!

HERE! HERE! toploader55

I too agree with toploader55. I have been on this site for quite a few years now. I don't really post that often, but I mostly read. I have had a few email conversations with some here, and the vast majority probably don't have a clue about me. But I love a good practical joke. And Jet was right on the money with this one. I simply loved making my contributions to it. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Robert and his wonderful creation here. I would never participate in any joke that would potentially bring harm to someone. I look forward to the time when I can meet all of you in person. But until then, I'll be in the background, enjoying your posts.

Dennis

Closed permanently?

A LEOPARD and SAFARI shot of AutomaticWasher.org being "Closed Permanently"?

A little Apple icon up in the corner?

This, from Robert, the "Feh, Macs!" guy?

Oh, there must be a back-story here. Either that, or do share the horror of having to borrow someone's computer to make that.

*taps foot*

New toy???

Come on Robert. Come out. Come out! Fellow Mac users unite! Don't be embarrassed. I'm loving mine.

Actually, Roto204, that's Mozilla's Firefox browser though, not Safari.

BTW...

This has been one of the most entertaining threads I've ever read. Thanks for the chuckles. Robert, you're a good sport. You provide us with a wonderful forum and you put up with all of our shenanigans. You're the best.

A belated Happy Chanukah to you.

Mac user as well and updated to the Leopard from the Tiger. love it so far ...much easier to use than a windows based PC. Click and drag baby...very intuitive programs. I have the IMac 20 incher....everything in the monitor and saves space. Sleek looking as well.
My 4 cents
