I have a model WC, on the front it is labeled 1-18. It is now giving troubles. I think that I have isolated the problem to the drive mechanism. It looks like some of the metal drive wheels are glazed and possibly the mating rubber drive wheels need replacing. When I attempt to look this washer up on repair parts web pages, I get the message that I need three characters for a model number.

Where can I get information on the drive unit for this washer and where can I locate parts.

Try WC5 or WC6.The "Crown"model is what you have.They also made one similar to that with a window on the lid,WCG5 and WCG6

I got the front off to see what I can see. I have fixed appliances before, but I make my living fixing electronics. All the shafts seem to move smoothly. When this washer quit, it had a tub full of water that I had to pump out. It would start to spin and extract the water then the thermal overload in the motor would pop. When I got the water out, it would spin fine, and it extracted the rest of the water from the clothes. It just will not spin with water in the tub. I see nothing that would stop the spinning if the pump was not pumping.

There are what look like three metal shafts and two rubber rollers. The metal shafts are somewhat glazed. The rubber rollers are yellow hard rubber.

I think that if I can clean the metal shafts and possibly replace the rubber rollers, I can get some more like out of the old girl.

I work at a TV station and had to replace the wheels on the camera pedestals. The rubber they used is simular to what is on the rollers in the washing machine. They use rubber with different durometer ratings. If I cannot get useable rubber rollers from somewhere, either new or used, possibly, I could have this company redo the rubber rollers for me.

Does anyone have data on these rubber rollers? I would need to know the original diameter. I can measure the durometer of the rubber.

Any thoughts on what I propose to get this washer working again?

Your washer has what is called the "Rollermatic" transmission. Here is a link to a page with a repair manual that may help you. I'd also try browsing around here on the forum, seems like I saw where someone had part of a repair manual uploaded for free. Can't remember for sure. Good luck, I'm looking for one of the great old Frigidaire's myself.

Contact "Lightedcontrols". It may be worth your while to take a ride up to his warehouse (Wytheville,VA.) and purchase one of his surplus machines to use as a parts donor.

It sounds like you may have a clutch problem. Searching the archives here is a good idea, I think there was some info posted about that particular problem.

If the rollers do need cleaning and not replacing, you can do this with simple lighter fluid.
