Hey Guys

Was doing my usual scout round the scrap pile today when something caught my eye - 95 Series Hotties are becoming quite rare these days so I always have a look if I see one as you would :).

This one had something that really opened my eyes tho!

According to Paul, thats a Currys exclusive - Paul can provide more answers im sure but can you provide the serial number for me? Only ever seen 1 of these before but I cant place my finger as to where, my reckoning is this is from 1993. Worth keeping for sure! Hoover Elite, Hotpoint Diamond what is going on?, 5 minutes while I go dig my garden with the abundance of Rocking Horse poop I have gathered! Lol!

My auntie had a Diamond Hotpoint from Currys, had the vertical option buttons as well as the auto prewash and door release buttons to the right of the dial, and also had a horizontal spin slider and of course the green button. 1200 spin too and had the extra two ITCL programmes for silks and printed acetates, and special whites
:-D.

That's a very nice Hotpoint you've found, it looks great. I just hope it still works and if it doesn't, it shouldn't be too difficult to restore it and get replacement parts for it.

As for the machine itself, it definitely looks like an electric shop exclusive model, I could picture it being sold through a high street shop back in it's day. I don't recall it being in any Hotpoint brochures lol.

Did they really call it Diamond? I thought that name was only used on their refrigeration range as in Iced Diamond.

It looks smart and classy for it's age, I'd rather have 1 of these over today's models, looks like a lot of fun to use lol.

I do it hope it gets saved and not go to waste. Fingers crossed for that!

How do guys.

Great find there Seamus. Dont really know much about the 97 series machines apart from the fact that they were all late exclusives through the various retail outlets.

Below is all the info I have on the 97's:

HOTPOINT 800RPM FRONT LOADER CURRYS ECLUSIVE 9770P
HOTPOINT 800RPM FRONT LOADER RUMBELOWS EXCLUSIVE 9773P
HOTPOINT 800-FLUSH/DOOR AQUARIUS 9774P
HOTPOINT 800RPM FRONT LOADER CURRYS EXCLUSIVE 9775A
HOTPOINT 1000RPM FRONT LOADER CURRYS EXCLUSIVE 9775W
HOTPOINT 800RPM FRONT LOADER RUMBELOWS EXCLUSIVE 9776A
HOTPOINT 1000RPM FRONT LOADER CURRYS EXCLUSIVE 9776P
HOTPOINT 1000 AQUARIUS CURRYS EXCLUSIVE 9777P

The impression I get is that they were spare parts bin machines, created to sell cheaply and avoid wastage. Good idea really, although the reasoning behing calling them 'DIAMOND' is lost on me. They also did DIAMOND dryers too - see image below.

I wonder who it was who mistakenly ordered the thousands of green buttons they had lying around!

Have a great Christmas and New Year guys.
All the best
Paul
