My Talltub started making noises lounder than my garbage disposer, all through the wash cycle. I felt around the bottom and nothing, ran it again, still a hard grinding noise.
I took off the wash arm, impeller cover and nothing in the impeller chamber. I then took the impeller off and it's chamber and below is the grinding chamber, well!!
A little ball of wadded up aluminum foil, some beat up Saran Wrap shreds and a piece of rubber that looked really familiar.
On the tall tub door, at the left and right is a rubber insert that seems to be some sort of dam between the tub and the door. It is sort of clamped between the outer door and the inner door at the bottom, about 1 and 1/2 inches long by 3/4 wide with an exposure of about 1/4 inch to 1/2 inch. My right one was missing, it's in bad shape ground but not devoured by the disposer blade.

What is this part for and what does it do? Should I be concerened to operate the thing without the rubber thing intact(Ok lets not go there on the double entendre)

Phil

PS, don't let guests load your dishwasher after Martini time.

I'm not the man I used to be either.

A rubber is always a good idea. Manufacturers would not spend money on it if it provided no benefit and had no purpose. (That is what adult unemployed children who never leave home are for.)

Without said device, it will usually leak into places where it is not desirable and end-up doing damage and costing you money.

(Mah apologies and no disrespect intended, I just couldn't help my little-ole' self!)

Toggles, we are going to have to meet sometime. I think there is too much humor to be wasted between us unless we package it. I usually go to NY for the March Madness because Syracuse University dominates at Madison Square Garden in basketball,my Alma Mater. How Butch, but that's my only sport. Oh, and my Power Gay friends Bill and Martin of Chelsea are buying a vacation home in Marrakech,Morocco, so I cant wait to take over thier apartment when they are gone.
