My grandmother's Kenmore-branded Frigidaire FL is making some pretty gawd-awful grinding noises, especially when it goes into spin cycle. It happened all of a sudden like she said. I have not seen the unit directly, but doesn't this sound like the dreaded tub bearing issue?

Luckily, she purchased a 3-year warranty contract from Sears when she bought it. The unit is about 2.5 years old, and Sears says they will repair anything it needs. The Sears tech has not come out yet to look at it. I'm interested in hearing what the malfunction is. Her washer ends up handling about 8-10 loads a week because not only is she doing her own laundry in it, my cousin brings over his family's laundry and washes it in her machine too.

Well, whatever it is needs to get some attention before it self-destructs!
Call repair and hold Sears' feet to the fire! If the tub has a "lifetime" warranty, then demand a whole new tub as the bearing is part of it!

Make sure everything is documented well and call service as many times as needed. That way if it hits the fan you have evidence in your hands that the machine needs total replacement.

Its defiantly a bearing issue and needs to be sorted sooner rather than later!
