Seller claims this was one of the first models of Maytag dryers, and that it was a gift to his grandmother from grandfather. The former would have nothing to do with the thing and continued to use her clothes lines, thus the unit sat all these years almost totally unused.

Someone one needs to get this!

"in fact, I'd say the enamel on this is in better shape than the enamel on my modern dryer."

Now that's a shocker, lol.

This is the weird clothes incinerator one we have. It honestly had a very bad reputation for burning clothes. Maybe early dryer users set it for too much drying time. Good thing it has a low heat setting, but it's still not a dryer for synthetics. There is a little drive wheel for the pump on the bottom and the belt coming horizontally from the motor makes a funny bend around the wheel, turning the belt on its side. There is no fan/condenser unit, just a water spray and the pump. The whole outer tub is encased in foil-faced insulation. It looks like the door gasket received some damage from pulling that stored ironing out of the machine.

It does look nice - at least they recognize that the starting price is key to attracting bidders. Now if they had the rarely used matching washer... Wouldn't that be a beautiful display with both side-by-side?

You're right, Tom, this was a HOT dryer. I wonder if by this model, Maytag had added the "kiss idler" to the twisted belt-path to keep it from jumping off the pulley(s)? I remember Jeff's comment when he saw how this was built; "they never should have been allowed to do this..."

Would anyone have a schematic or a diaram or a pic as to how the condenser worked?

Justt can't wrap my little itsy-bitsy brain around it.
