Hello Guys,
Firstly, Happy 2008 to you all.

Here are some better pics of the 1965 Kelvinator i showed earlier. I spent the 2 weeks i had off over Xmas and New Year travelling with my partner to Melbourne Victoria (2 states and 2000 klms or 1242 Miles for you guys) to have a holiday but also pick up the Kelvy in my brand new station wagon that arrived Xmas eve.

We spent 3 lovely hours with the owners of the machine having lunch with them before starting our journey to head back to Brisbane. I also stopped off to view the 2 Simpson Fluid Drives i bought as well.

It was a slightly anxious drive back as there was some flooding on the way back but we made it just before the major floods took hold.

There are 2 links to a couple of video's of the machine agitating and spinning.

Cheers
Leon

Interior pic showing brand new blue agitator replacement.
Question: What's the best way to clean the clothes ring? I scrubbed a little but hope it may get cleaner.

Could that button be to stop the action?

I thought possibly so too, but it appears that the lid swings up and back.

What does that button do??

mayfan69's profile picture
Hey Toggles and Gary,

That button is the "Out of Balance" reset switch, it will pop up when out of balance and all you are expected to do is push the button down again.

Tim: "Leonard" was another product of Kelvinator here in Oz and also New Zealand.

Jamie: Yes, there is an overflow rinse.

Cheers
Leon

Leonard was sold by Kelvinator in the US as well, until the Sixties. They sold enough Leonard refrigerators to be tested by Consumer Reports.

Those are wonderful closeups of the agitator, Leon. I hadn't noticed before that the fins were different.

Well done Leon, another classic to add to the collection, was this a working machine with the owners, or was it in storage??

Do you not have more probs with hoses/gaskets drying out & cracking because of the heat etc?? or do you usually replace them all??

Mike

Floods in NSW

Hi Leon,

Glad to hear you made it through before the major flooding. The situation in northern NSW has been quite grim, with the tales of loss appearing on the news quite a lot now.

The machine looks cool too!

Nick

Amazing as usual Leon :)

It's nice to hear it running as quietly and smoothly as it is, a very nice looking machine :)

Thanks Nathan, Nick and Mike!

Yes Nick, it was good to get home when we did, by only a couple of hours before the major floods took hold.

Mike: this machine was in storage for the past 10 years and the hoses will need to be replaced.

By the way Mike, did you check out the thread with the UK designed Wilkins Servis? Here's the link....

This is fantastic!

What a great looking machine. I remember seeing these in someone's home when I was small. I never got to look inside. Just imagine the excitement I would of felt to discover such an unusual machine! Probably just as well I didn't get to open it up... LOL!
